I have always tried to avoid Circuit City- however, when I bought my Sony 50" LCD- they beat everyone (BB, Sears, Conn's, Fry's, Ultimate Eleci) by $200-$400. (didn't go to onecall or any of the mail order places)- and they came down from their advertised sale price to do it.

I played the game of shopping against each other-- and CC was ready to deal. Sears didn't really want to sell me a tv very bad (I would have paid a little more to avoid CC), and BB wouldn't go any better than around CC's advertised price.

The new samsung's look cool- and have the built-in tuner (which is why I went w/ the Sony 4 months ago).

If you come to Austin let me know. I sell TV's and design home theaters for a living. If I can help you out let me know. I work at A&B TV pm if you need info.

im curious as to why no CC, I bought my DLP from them, they had the best price, delivered for 40 bucks, they were 4 blocks away, what's the deal?

Nothing for the most part, hornin.

Sometimes you can get better deals by mail order.

Sometimes there are better models available that aren't sold at Circuit City or Best Buy. (certian Samsung DLP's for example).

They tried to sell me a projector week before last with over 800 hours on the bulb, telling me it was basically unused.

Why a DLP or projection? Haven't the plasmas and LCDs been going down in price?

I have a 42" Panny Plasma (HD) that has a great picture. The Panny plasma ED is supposed to be excellent as well, at a very good price. I tried out a DLP, but the room was too bright for it. I didn't notice the "rainbow" effect on the Samsung DLP, but some do see it. Your best bet is to always check out Avsforum on televisions.

I second the powerbuys through Avs forum. The shipping usually eats up the sales tax savings, but they have some great prices.

I've got a 61" Samsung DLP (the older HLP-6163W, not the new HLR) that I'm a big fan of.

The cheapest place I've ever seen is theThe Link site, but you need to link to it throughThe Link to get in on a "Power-buy". I bought my tv a year ago for $3600, shipped to my door, at a time when the listed price for the tv at Best Buy was $4400. Here are some example prices. Shipping is free and there is no sales tax, so what you see is what you pay:

HL-R4667W: $2195
HL-R6167W: $3,095.00
JVC HD-61Z786: $3,195.00

Send me a PM if you want more info.

Midtown: You got the HLR at Circuit City? All I've ever seen are the older HLP's at CC and Best Buy. If you indeed got that HLR at that price, thats a hell of a deal.

Aces,

If you already know what you want, then it's just a matter of where to get it. The small Samsung you mentioned is available at so many places, you should be able to find one pretty cheap. Then you just need to find the best warranty to go with it, preferably a no-questions replacement policy for at least a year. Costco may be your best choice all the way around for that. Try Sears and maybe Sam's also. Even if you find a better price on the net (from an authorized dealer), some local places will price-match them. Call around and ask.
