Is there a way to stop a company who automatically attempts to load software on your computer through advertising such as the "whenu.com" ad I have said no to over 1000 times? Pop ups are one thing that might be annoying but are understandable. Having an ad attempt to auto-load software after you have said no to it is quite another.

Is that unreasonable?

I don't think so. It irritates me that you can check an option to "Always trust everything from Blah Company" but you can't choose "Never trust anything from Blah Company."

Why is that? I can only think that Microsoft must be afraid people would choose never to accept updates from them and if they exempted themselves they would run afoul of some antitrust agreement.

Get SpywareBlaster, it does a pretty good job of preventing auto-installs...

SpywareBlaster

Beyond that, get a pop-up stopper and reset your browser to be less "open" to auto-loading and installing of stuff...

i really don't understand what advertising genius thinks i'm going to buy a product from a company that advertises it by ******* invading my computer or showing me a popup.

They're usually not the one's selling you the product. They get paid by merchants for each click or they sell access to their "audience" to advertisers:

I bet out of the 43 million that have installed it 43 million did so unwittingly.

I spend a minimum of 4 hours a week unloading this shite off of company PCs.
Savenow, MyWebsearch, Lycos, MemoryMeter, Gain..the list is endless.
Some of them are so insidious, they ask you to download and install a "removal tool"....riiiiiight.

I just spent 2 weeks at our corporate office doing the same thing. Our sales reps are amazing, to be so damn smart, some of them are ******* idiots. There was more **** on their pc's than i care to think about. I absolutely love Hijack this and CWShredder. Bazooka is pretty good to, pinpoints that **** when it gets hidden in your registry.

If I was you I would switch to another browser. I use Mozilla for websites I know that throw a bunch of pop-ups. It's a little slower than IExplorer, but saves me some stress.
