Pitt trails Penn with about 6 minutes left in the game, 17-10.
They go for it on fourth and 1 around midfield with a beautiful play-action to the tight end. Then, a deep pass on second and 19, and the receiver makes an amazing grab to give them first and goal at the 1.
First down: play-action, QB has to avoid a sack and throws it away.
Second down: QB runs a zone read - and he's not a fast man. Drilled, loses about a half yard.
Third down: ANOTHER play-action, ANOTHER near sack, has to throw it away again.
Fourth down: Because clearly they've used up EVERY POSSIBLE PLAY YOU COULD RUN TO PICK UP A SINGLE YARD... they give up and kick a field goal (down 7 with 4:50 to play) and the kicker bounces it off the near poll.
If ever a coaching staff did not deserve to score a point on a drive, that was it.
