When you die, who contacts who? Do they know?

Maybe a morbid thought but maybe an important one. We have had some members here die which is sad. We have gotten to know that some of them did and we got to share in our tributes to them and brought forward memories.

If you died, what places would your loved ones notify of your passing? Do they know of this site or others to go to that would want to know?

I was giving that some thought now and realized that my sisters would likely be the best ones to do this sad task but would not think of this place and a few others. I have friends here who would but would you even want that? Would you want to just fade away and not bring people down or let them know?

When I die I won't care. I have discussed with my wife that if there is some reason why she can't give me a viking funeral on the Medina River (she kinda likes the idea, but there are probably laws) then she should give my corpse to some doctor in waiting to practice on.

Most of the personal relationships I have developed with posters were with posters that have, um, well, moved on to other things. I can't imagine any person that would even know about the 10,000plus posts I logged around here and if they did, they would probably be disappointed in my time wasting.

We had a poster here on HF die about a year ago- his name was Wild Bill. He told us on a thread he had an uphill battle with cancer- he updated us regularly, and one day- he just stopped posting.

Because some posters knew his real name- someone found the death announcement in the paper, posted a link- and we said our 'online goodbyes.' I was legitimately sad about this man passing even though I never met him in real life- especially when you follow his battle with cancer.

Anyways, I suppose I'd do something similar- but, I'm 35, so trying to enjoy life at the moment.

I think if you die it is incumbent upon you to notify the board with all due haste so nobody will be caught flaming your last living posts. Flaming a dead person can be very embarrassing when it comes to light. Also continued posting after the death notice is frowned upon because of access to insider information not available to the general public.

I'm pretty sure Shadowdancer would post here that I had expired. And if he didn't, someone else would.

However, to paraphrase Abe Lemons, "I ain't dead yet!"

Yeah, but you know people.

I don't. If I do a Fred Sanford or eat a center divider, you guys will just be wondering "whatever happened to that ******* BigWill? He hasn't posted in a while".

Meanwhile, I'm dead.

if my posting suddenly stopped on here, i would assume people would think that i would have thankfully and finally gotten a life!

oh, the irony.

God wold let them know and maybe you too...

There are many posters who have passed that I was glad their loved ones took the time to let us know (mihms, phxhorn, Mrs. Macanudo, Snoop Dog, the list goes on too long to think about just with posters on THIS board).

It allowed us to pay our respects and say our online goodbyes, and to also let those loved ones know how much we cared about the poster who had passed, and what they meant to our little community here.

I'm not sure anyone here would notice if I passed, but I hope that when we do lose posters here, that we are told about it, and we can say our goodbyes...

veggie, general, will, and all of you:

I'd miss you all if you passed away before me. I mean that.

You are missing an important consideration. Perhaps the right to your name could be passed on to one of your heirs. That way you would live on. Immortality could be achieved in this manner.
It would be eternally glorious. I can see it now...
"I am Big Will."
"I am Big Will."
"I am Big Will...

It would be interesting to see the stats on HornFans userids. What regular posters have gone silent, etc. It would also be interesting to see the long-time usernames too.

I used to have a link for that very info, but I lost it. You could see that X registered on a particular date and how many total posts, last post date, etc.

Rpongett and Scully? come to mind. Lots of posters went silent just because they switched boards.
