When Kyle Porter took a knee.....

he would have gone straight to the bottom of the depth chart playing for me. This guy has shown nothing to deserve playing time! Herman keeps talking about he's a great practice player, well big deal. When I coached HS football we had many players thru the years that were good practice players but when you turned the lights on they just couldn't handle the enormity of the game. Guess what? that's Kyle Porter. Herman keeps talking about building a culture, I don't think taking a knee with 20 yards of daylight in front of you is part of that culture. I nearly had a cow when i saw him take the knee. But guess what ? He was right back in there right after taking a knee. Kyle can't get yards, he can't block but he looks good taking a knee!!! PATHETIC !!!!

I could get behind the "losing massive amount of PT for mistakes in practice" philosophy a lot more if it also applied to mistakes in games.

If you remember, Porter was knocked dizzy in the series before that.
He had to be helped to the sidelines.
Why do we keep inserting players back into the game after obvious shots to the head?
When he took the knee my first thought was he still wasn't all there.

I suspect he was taking the safe play after muffing the ball as it squibbed around. I bet he was looking at the ball (I would have been) and had no idea where the defenders were, so immediately took a knee after securing it to prevent a catastrophic turnover. I groaned about that play when it happened, but I think the OPs reaction to it is completely over the top.

You want two plays that made me a lot more mad due to the obvious lack of situational awareness our guys showed? First, on our next to final possession we have the lead and are trying to run clock. We throw to Foreman and he fights for an extra yard but gets knocked out of bounds. The yard was not worth the cost of the stopped clock, and Foreman should have known that. Fall down in bounds dammit!

Second, on our final possession when we are now trailing and trying to conserve the clock, we give the ball to Porter, he goes wide and cuts back for an extra half yard instead of stepping out of bounds. Again, the minuscule extra yardage was not worth having the clock run. Step out of bounds, dammit!

It is the lack of situational awareness and football IQ that our guys consistently display that costs us games and frustrates the hell out of me. We play hard, but we rarely play smart.

The players offensive players apparently get their football IQ from Beck. We have seen Ehlinger's propensity for catastrophically bad decisions again and again (a couple of which he shouldn't have been on the field) but when you are trying to hold on, you put the ball in his hands instead of running it on third and two and if you don't make it let your best player, pin tech inside the 10 yet again. A coach simply cannot put ehlinger in that situation at that time. Twice inside the 1, can we try a jump pass at least once, do we even have that play. Since they like to run the QB into the line it seems like it might have a chance to work.

the entire 2nd half of this game could be summed up by that play

In fact That is when I became 100% certain we were going turtle and we were going to lose. Up to that point my really bad feeling was just a feeling. Then I knew.

I am sure he pees an excellent shade of yello tho....

That was the play that just broke it for me. I went nuts and started yelling at anything around me. After the 16 pt collapse in BBall and then that. I just couldn't take it anymore. Just pissed me off to no end.

It was frustrating. I yelled at the TV. But when I rewatched it, it was an effective kick. It took a little time to get to him. It made a strange bounce right at the end. It got him off balance and he seemed to slap it down. At that point he went the better safe than sorry route.
It was crazy making in the moment, but the second time I saw it I didn't think it sucked as bad as I thought live.
