When is game 2?

It's on right now. They said during the first game broadcast that the second game would be on an FM channel instead of The Zone.

Here's the video feed from TexasSports.com: The Link.

Texas already trails, 1-0, in the bottom of the second.

Texas gets the leadoff runner aboard in the bottom of the third courtesy of a hit-by-pitch, but Jacob Felts advances no farther than second base.

Maryland clings to a one-run lead, 1-0, heading to the top of the fourth.

Texas gets the leadoff runner aboard here in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a sharply hit ball from Brandon Loy that Stinnett can't handle. Not sure if that will go for an error, but that's definitely the first sign of imperfection from Maryland's infield.

Weiss continues with the hot bat as he rips an RBI single to left and stretches it into a double. Great speed on the base paths there.

Texas pulls to within a run, 2-1.

Maryland goes 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth. Would be nice if the Texas bats woke up.

Can't always judge a guy for his past, but the Terp pitcher who is shutting us down today was 2-10 last year with an 8-plus ERA. Bottom third of the Texas order is up this inning, and it will be the third look at Potter (if he stays in) for the top of the order.

Felts reaches first with a leadoff single. Shepherd follows with a double-play ball that Stinnett has to hold because no one was covering second. Stinnett ultimately makes the throw to second but the delay allows Shepherd to reach first.

Break for the 'Horns there.

Christian Summers strikes out swinging, his second K of the game. One on, two away, Payton up.

Shepherd swipes second on a 1-0 pitch that goes for a ball.

The next pitch runs high for ball three. The catcher can't hang on to it and Shepherd advances to third on the passed ball.

After the count goes full, Payton draws a walk to put runners on the corners. Loy at the plate.

Loy chops a 2-0 pitch to short that is easily handled for out No.3. That's three straight innings the 'Horns have gotten the leadoff hitter aboard, but only one run to show for it.

To the sixth--Maryland 2, Texas 1.

Montville crushes a 2-out pitch to center for his first career home run as Maryland regains its two-run advantage.

Stafford plunks the next batter on a 1-2 pitch and then yields a first-pitch single to left. That's enough for Skip Johnson, who calls for Kiefer Nuncio from the Texas bullpen.

Nuncio gives up a deep single and Maryland scores another. A wild pitch advances the runners to second and third, but Loy turns a grounder for out No.3.

All of the damage in that inning coming with two outs. Ouch.

Maryland 4, Texas 1.

After Walsh gets out to start the bottom of the sixth, Weiss singles to center. That's the seventh hit of his fledgling career; he's only been retired once.

The next pitch hits Kevin Lusson and suddenly the 'Horns are threatening. Two on, one out, and Walla up.

5-4 fielder's choice forces Lusson out at second. Runners on the corners with two out for Felts.

Walla steals second to take away the double play opportunity. The catcher didn't even bother to make a throw.

Felts grounds a 2-2 pitch back to the mound. Credit the pitcher there for making a great play.

That ends the threat and the inning. Texas not very clutch on offense or defense today.

Maryland 4, Texas 1.

Texas gets through the top of the seventh unscathed. The Terps did put a couple on base with two outs, though.

Maryland 4, Texas 1.

Strange series of plays helps Texas pull back a run in the bottom of the seventh.

After Shepherd flies to center for out No.1, Etier is given a pass to first. Confusion ensues as to whether he was walked or hit by pitch (the count was 2-2, but the ump never signaled HBP).

The next batter, Mark Payton, strokes a double to center. Maryland mishandles the relay and Etier is able to score. Payton is then awarded third base on an interference call.

Terps coach gets into it with the umpires and is ejected. Payton is then thrown out at home on Loy's attempted sacrifice bunt.

Walsh strikes out looking to end the rally.

Maryland 4, Texas 2. Strange inning.

Texas gets into trouble in the top of the eighth. A leadoff hit chases Nuncio, but McKirahan steps in and is able to slam the door. Key play was a one-out strikeout with a runner on third.

Another weird play included a sacrifice bunt that moved the lead runner to second, followed by a throwing error that advanced him to third, but then the hitter was caught in a run down between first and second for the first out of the inning.

Maryland 4, Texas 2.

Weiss draws a four-pitch, leadoff walk to start the bottom of the eighth. Lusson up.

Lusson singles to right and Weiss moves up to third. Runners on the corners with no outs. Walla up.

The first pitch to Walla beaned him on the top of the helmet. That loads the bases for Jacob Felts.

Felts pops up the first pitch behind the catcher, who has a hard time judging the ball but makes the catch. Bags juiced, one out, Shepherd up.
Ball, 1-0.
Called strike, 1-1.
Ball, 2-1.
Check swing foul, 2-2.
Ball, 3-2.
Payoff pitch hits Shepherd. Run scores. Texas trails by just a run. Montalbano in to pinch hit for Etier.

Count runs to 2-2 on Montalbano before he's hit square in the back. That brings home the tying run.

First pitch to Payton goes wild. Walla gets a good jump from third and beats the run home. Texas grabs its first lead of the day (14-plus innings).

Payton then clears the bases with a two-run double to left that just stays fair. Texas leads, 7-4, with one on and one out for Loy.

Loy singles to center but Payton is hosed at the plate with a superb throw. Loy moves to second on the throw. One on, two out for Walsh.

Walsh grounds to second to end the inning. Texas scores five runs on three base hits, a walk, three hit batsmen and a wild pitch.

Any recruitniks here got the skinny on Weiss? He's been a monster so far this season.

Glad to see this wont be a completely black Saturday for Horns teams. Nice rally here in the 8th.

Top of the ninth. Rodriguez at bat:
Strike, 0-1.
Ball high, 1-1.
Ball, 2-1.
Ball inside, 3-1.
Called strike, 3-2.
Fouled off a ball WELL outside the zone, 3-2.
Foul, 3-2.
Foul, 3-2.
Deep fly to left. Montalbano squeezes it for out No.1. Terps down to their final two outs.

Wacker:
Ball low, 1-0.
Pop up to short. Two away.

Delp:
First-pitch line drive drops in for a single. One on, two out.

Skip makes another call to the bullpen. Stayton Thomas replaces McKirahan for his first appearance of the season.

Lazar in to pinch hit for Schneider:
Foul to deep left, 0-1.
Ball low, 1-1.
Next pitch is drilled back up the middle, but Loy roves to his left, gloves the ball and throws to first just in time for the final out.

Texas wins, 7-4.

Early season wins arent about being pretty. This team has a lot of growing to do and this weekend is demonstrating that. Cole wont be as off later in the year as he was today as we get into the meat of the year. Great to get a split now lets get 3 of 4 tomorrow.

From the video broadcast, it sounds like there was nearly a fight between the players after the game. So much for shaking hands ...

I have heard nothing but great things about Erich, great player from Brenham.

Weiss was named first-team all-state for the second year in a row after batting .462 with three homers and 39 RBIs. A senior, he has signed with The University of Texas.

“Erich has been a special player for us,” Long said. “He’s going to be one of those kids that’s going to be a big player for Texas one day. He has all the tools - height, the body to put on weight, he swings the bat well and he’s going to get stronger. I think you’re going to hear a lot about Erich Weiss in the future.”

His Dad played for Dodgers, great job so far Erich

I think I stumbled upon the same article after a web search, warrior. I just don't follow baseball recruiting close enough to know what to expect of these freshmen.

On the rare occasions when I do read a blurb about a commit, the MLB too often lures him away. Jungmann is an obvious exception, and look what an incredible talent he's been for us.
