When a recruit is hurt his junior year

I've got a connection with a kid who has been hurt most of the year, Junior year. I think it's a sprained ankle. He's an offensive lineman, he and his dad both think OU is pretty serious. (We are north of Dallas, so OU is a heavy hitter up here, I think because it's closer to Norman than Austin.)

Anyway, do the coaches normally lose interest in a kid in this situation? Or do they take a wait and see approach? I kind of thought he might be interested in a smaller in-state school, but all they talk about is OU.

He is very well-rounded, musically, academically, wants to be a Dr.

I'm pretty sure his mom said OU invited him to visit and stand on the sidelines of an OU game.

I think the only answer is that it depends on the coach and the situation. Anything else is speculation and not related to this young man. Wish him the best.

Same thing happened to Antwan Cobb. Was the #1 RB in Texas for class of 2006 until he broke his foot and played limited his Jr. year. Still averaged over 6.5 ypc but only ran for like 700 yards because of the injury. tried to fight through it for playoffs but got caught from behind against Javorskies Lufkin team, something that had never happened before. Coaches backed off and if it wasn't for Moody falling out of favor and Chizik saying he wanted Cobb no matter what he'd be getting carries in Lincoln right now.
Now while Cobb hasn't panned out due to injuries, the fact remains that he went from the #1 RB in Texas and a first team all district KR as a sophomore (his highlight reel was SICK his sophomore year) to a 3 star that rivals listed as a 4.68 40 time (the guy returns kicks and runs sprints in track- hello! he does not run a 4.7!)
I feel sorry for this kid you speak of because OU may bak off if they fill their OL need too quickly before he can recover.

TR, I actually think that it might be a blessing in disguise if that happens. I see this kid as more of a guy who will take full advantage of the scholarship to get his degree.

So, if he were to end up in a smaller D-1 or D-1AA college, he could get his premed degree, and then get started on his prerequisites for med school, and maybe even take the test during his five years.

BTW, I'm guessing scholarships for D-1AA are also 5 years?
4 reg + redshirt.

same thing happened to dj grant...he still got a scholarship, but it depends on the player and coach. i mean he turned out ok, but his injury wasn't very serious, though he was still out for the majority of his junior season, but it all depends...

If there is enough game film showing a productive So. year, a kid might still get an offer. Realistically since recruiting top talent is such a race if a coach sees someone who thinks will be as good as this other kid, who is currently hurt and not playing, the healthy kid will get the benefit of the doubt. Jr year is probably the most important year for HS recruits, especially because of the early recruiting. Depending on what other OL recruits OU has in their pocket, and based on the talent pool this year, they may "wait and see" how he does as a Sr, or they may find someone else they think will be just as good.
This is how we see really good players go to smaller, lesser known schools.

update, I talked to his dad the other night. I was wrong, he only missed a game! He and his dad will be guests at the TT-OU game tomorrow night. He is playing LT, his dad said he is 6-6, 260, but I would never have guessed 260. He looks almost skinny to me.

So, I guess this means he's in, if they've invited him to the biggest game of the year?

How soon can they make a verbal offer?
