Whats you GPA have to be to get into UT?

top 10% of your class... or if you are not in the top 10%, you have to have good SAT scores and essays and recommendations and activities and so forth....

I chose Tech, but got into UT's biz school with a 1380 SAT and around a 91/100 average (we didn't use the 4 pt scale). I have lots of friends at UT that scored in the low 1000's though (I'm thinking 1030 - biz, 1050 - comm, and maybe even less than 1000 - education major). Come to think of it, out of about 10 friends at UT, most scored less than 1050 and their class rankings were iin the top 20-40% range. I was the last person in the top 25%, so I'd estimate their averages were prob 88-92.

UT has adopted a holistic approach to admissions. Essays and extra-curricular activities are nearly as important as SAT/GPA, IMO.

Applying early helps. If you're borderline, you'll get more looks--but if you have better than average SAT scores(or are top 10%), you'll get your acceptance letter almost immediately. If you're borderline, again, they may let you in early if it looks like they haven't got that many applications, or they may wait until the big deadline in February/March to let you know. Everything depends on your own unique situation if you're not top 10%, so any GPA or SAT "requirements" are totally bunk if you have some sort of high-standing high school, or under-represented school.

Min. of 3.0 for most departments. Others, like Business, require a min. of 3.5 but the higher the better since it is real competitive. Also, have letters from prof's that will say good things about you. It cannot hurt. I don't think any schools at UT accept below 3.0.

It is almost impossible to transfer into the business school. I heard they were going to quit allowing transfers all together but I am not sure that has happened yet.

THE_One,

Actually there is no minimum GPA established. They create the minimum based on the students GPA's who apply. Therefore, if you happen to apply in a down yearyou have a better shot. But whose to say when or if it is a bad year.

I also call BS on the 1050 Biz school. And, exactly why would you choose Tech?

I just went thru the process, and they told me a year in advance that the min. for Liberal Arts was a 2.5 and then a year later that was still the min. It's been posted on the website forever

Dude, I swear. Perhaps it would be impossible now, but not in '97. He graduated in December with a degree in MIS. He has a **** load of family that attended/attend UT, as well as being a pretty well-rounded kid. I'm sure both these aspects were weighted more heavily than his SAT score.

I'm a senior in high school and i didn't apply to UT but several friends did and this year is a competitive year. First off, they seem to favor SAT Scores over GPA's, ppl with 1200's SAT and below had a hard time getting in and several were referred to the CAT program with UTSA where you go to UTSA for a year and if you have a 3.0 GPA or above then you can transfer to UT. The people who were CAT programmed easily got into Tech, Baylor, A&M, etc.

Just a few years ago everyone got into UT. Granted, some had to go to summer school and make it through some rigorous coursework, but anyone could get in. I knew a few that did that. They said the summer session was about 2X as hard as the regular classwork.

yeah the old provisional system. Many young naive chicks came through the old provy system. I think they stopped that last year.

Does anyone know about the college of engineering? Im at Kansas State now and trying to transfer to UT 2nd semester next year and not sure if I will get in or not. I have around a 3.1 right now and will have some upper level coarses completed when I transfer. Is it easier to get in 2nd semester?
