What's wrong w. my trees?

I have two trees in the front of my house that look positively awful. They were already here when I moved in last year and looked about the same. The leaves are sickly yellow. I've thrown tons of tree fertilizer on them already but it's not making a difference?

Are they goners?

If those are the trees in the picture, they don't look that bad. First of all, fertilizing likely won't help, especially if it is a chemcial based high nitrogen blend; its just going to push out more foliage that will be affected. Where do you live? If it has been relatively wet and you have poor drainage, you probably have iron chlorosis. Typically, if you have chlorosis, the leaf veins remain greener than the leaf. If this is the case, you will need to provide your trees with iron. There are several products available for this; but if it is in bad shape I would recommend a commercial arborist to perform a trunk injection. I know that sometimes it appears expensive, but it is cheaper than losing/removing the trees.

Also remember, good compost is always beneficial; so I would recommend that too.

Thanks. I live in Frisco, and the drainage isn't a problem. All my neighbors have very healthy trees. Is this something just particular to the type of tree you think? Both trees look very similiar, but the other ones in my yard look fine.

Are the affected trees the same type as your healthy trees? If not, it maybe a case of non-native trees that won't adapt to your area. Are the leaves curling up at the tips? If this is the case, you might have borers that are preventing water flow from the roots to the leaves. Do you know what type of trees you have?

The trees might just have yellowis leaves?

or the trees might be toward the end of their natural life cycle. I had to take down a big tree at my hose about 1 months after I moved it. it was an ash that was just at then end of it's natural life cycle and in decline.

Is that a ginko tree? If so, it looks pretty typical. Ginko leaves never get dark green....and generally keep a light green, almost yellowish tint. During the fall, the leaves are bright, almost neon yellow.

Definitely iron chlorosis. Just mix up a few gallons of liquid iron and watch it turn dark again.

BTW-Identical trees right next to each other - one can have it, and one can be fine.

I have no idea what type of tree it is, but it's not a ginko tree. Their leaves (googled) look like this:

Anyone care to guess what tree I have? I'm going to go to the nursery this morning and get some stuff to soak the roots and foliage.

I dumped Ironite on them this weekend and sprayed the leaves with liquid iron. I'll be damned if the bigger tree doesn't look better this morning. Small one is still the same but hopefully in a few days I'll start seeing a difference

Did you ever find out what kind of tree that is? My ginko tree is shaped like yours and the leaves are not like the one in your link. Glad the tree is doing better.
