rant - i refi'd in january. US Bank bought my mortgage shortly after. made my first payment last month and had to do it by check b/c they didn't have our info set for online payment yet. just logged in to make my payment for this month, it's the 2nd. there's a 3.50 charge for any payment made after the 1st, till the 5th of the month. then the fees go up after the 5th. 1 day is what you have to make your payment online and not pay a fee. no fees for mailing in before the 15th.
had countrywide before. they gave 6 days w/ no fee, then fees started on the 7th. my car payment w/ wellsfargo, no late charge until 10 days.
i never pay anything late, but i almost never remember to pay exactly on the 1st for my mortgage. i prefer to submit my payments manually (they don't offer auto) b/c i almost always pay more than due. i called and they said it's the system. i told them i was going to be sending in checks (thru my bank, free) and it's going to cost them more. congrats!
