I'm far from an expert but the following seems to be the case, other thoughts and opinions appreciated.
There are a lot of teams that have one shut down pitcher and a team of pretty good hitters and defenders.
These teams will win one game with their shut down pitcher but usually run out of luck sooner or later. Their other pitching, their hitting, and/or their defense will eventually let them down against the more complete team.
Texas is just such a team. As is TCU. As is probably UCLA.
So, to win confidently you have to have 2 or 3 shut down pitchers or a bunch of gorilla bats like LSU last year. Of course, easier said than done to have that kind of a complete team especially with MLB cherry picking the best from year to year.
