I'm far from an expert but the following seems to be the case, other thoughts and opinions appreciated.

There are a lot of teams that have one shut down pitcher and a team of pretty good hitters and defenders.

These teams will win one game with their shut down pitcher but usually run out of luck sooner or later. Their other pitching, their hitting, and/or their defense will eventually let them down against the more complete team.

Texas is just such a team. As is TCU. As is probably UCLA.

So, to win confidently you have to have 2 or 3 shut down pitchers or a bunch of gorilla bats like LSU last year. Of course, easier said than done to have that kind of a complete team especially with MLB cherry picking the best from year to year.

More runs than the other team when the game is over, no matter what combination of pitching, batting, offense, or defense gets you there.

Paraphrase from Switzer about winning national titles:

Be really really really good
Get really really really lucky (no injuries/turnovers)
Hope that the others that are really really good dont get lucky
Hope that Florida State and Notre Dame each lose at least twice

Is it likely that high school players with big bats might avoid
Texas because of our propensity to play small ball? I can
imagine that this is something that might be used against us.
Just a thought.

Considering the trend that it's easier going in to Omaha without a national seed, I'd say the thing that benefits the team the most is guys playing "over their heads," that is, beyond what they're generally capable of.

It's obvious that our team had struggles at the plate at points throughout the season. You find guys who hit like 8th in the order to get timely hits in order to succeed at the highest level. All we got was a big collective sigh once we got down in the batting order and the pitch counts.

The teams that win it all kind of give a big middle finger to "the man" and swing away when baserunners are needed. I can't fault our pitching, although it wasn't perfect.
