Oh my gosh, there was inclement weather during the Germany vs Turkey match. That's why the satellite feed went out and the viewing public missed seeing two goals scored during the second half.
Nothing ESPN could do except cut to Reese Davis in the studio. No way to provide an audio feed, much less a video feed. There was a lightning strike. Enough said.
Except for one minor detail. ESPN kept cutting to a place called the "Fan Zone," which consisted of a bunch of spectators gathered in front of a giant TV screen. The best part was, the spectators continued to watch the game that the rest of us could no longer see. As Reese Davis apologized for technical difficulties, they showed footage of fans watching the game.
If the people in the "Fan Zone" could still see the game, why couldn't viewers in the United States see the game? I'm skeptical of ESPN's claim that the entire world lost coverage of the game.
