what was VY doing in the confetti?

i just finished watching the rose bowl for about the 1000th time. What was VY doing in when we won? Was his family in that section, or was he just going straight to the fans? The picture of his back with confetti in the air is one of my favorites of all time. I was just wondering why he was there, all alone, facing the crowd while the rest of team was on the field going crazy?

Was anyone sitting in that area that has any idea?
