What the Cowboys should do in the '08 Draft

The Cowboys hope to use this draft to address needs at corner, receiver, offensive tackle and possibly running back.

If I were Jerry Jones, I would first make exploding offers to Cincinnati of:
a) the 22nd pick (1st round), Evil suck-*** Safety Roy Williams and a 5th round choice for Chad Johnson; or
b) the 22nd pick (1st round), Dallas's third round pick, #92, and a 6th round choice for Chad Johnson

and then if they do not accept (and I would be open that I am making similar offers to Detroit and Arizona as a way to put pressure on Cincy to accept quickly or Dallas will approach the other teams), I would then make the same offer to Detroit for good WR Roy Williams and then to Arizona for Anquan Bouldin but make "choice a)" be a 6th Round selection instead of a 5th round selection and make "choice b)" a fourth round selection (#126) instead of the 3rd round selection.

Then I would trade the other first round pick (#28) for an early 2nd rounder and a third round pick or a #1 next year (like the Cleveland trade) and a 3rd round pick. There are going to be a lot of teams (like Atlanta and Baltimore) in the high second round that will be fighting to pick up QBs Brohm or Flacco b/c they decided to pass on Matt Ryan early in round 1. These teams will be afraid of another team jumping them to take the next tier of QBs as there is a big drop-off after Flacco and Brohm.

Dallas should then use their first pick on an OT or CB (Dallas should act as if Pacman Jones will never play for them), positions for which many draft experts say this is as deep a class as any in recent memory (and Herm Edwards traded the NFL sack leader to get more picks as he specifically said this is a deep class for OL and CB) or take a top notch running back like Felix Jones or Rashard Mendenhall if for some reason they slip this far. If these two RBs are not available in 2nd round then Dallas should take a speedster like Chis Johnson or Jamaal Charles in Round 3 to provide a thunder (Marion Barber) and lightning (Johnson or Charles) combo in the backfield.

Finally, if Dallas picks up a top CB in the draft and Pacman gets reinstated, they should try to trade Evil Safety Roy Williams for any 2009 draft pick (assuming no team takes "choice a" over "choice b") and move Anthony Henry (who at 6'1 205 has free safety size) to free safety and actually employ a novel approach of using its starting safety in nickel and dime packages (whereas Dallas currently has to bench its "Pro Bowl" safety Roy Williams in nickel and dime packages b/c he sucks so bad in pass coverage).

This draft-day strategy would give Dallas game breakers at WR and RB and address their needs at OT and CB and get rid of Evil Roy Williams who is a drag on the defense and even might give Dallas another high first round pick in 2009.

I know a lot of people will say that Dallas can not trade Evil Roy Williams for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick b/c of his contract, but realize the teams that have the game breaking WRs of Arizona, Detroit, and Cincy desperately need help on the defensive side of the ball, particularly to toughen their run defense and Roy Williams provides strong run support and he has been a multiple "Pro Bowl" selection. Also, look at ESPN's history of biggest draft day busts and Detroit, Cincy, and Arizona draftees make up about a third of the biggest busts alone and Detroit somehow still employs Matt Millen (who Sporting News says that actual Detroit drafts under Millen should be considered Mock drafts, b/c they are deserving of such mockery).

Whether tor not he Cowboys Trade Evil Roy they need to draft a safety early. They need someone who can cover and lay a lick. Keep Henry a cornerback. You need three in a lot of game situations so you need 4-5 good ones on a roster. Pacman is a terrific athlete, but he's been out of the game and year and while he may have learned his lesson, his knucklehead history suggests you can't just plug him into a starting spot and feel like it's taken care of for the next 4-6 years.

If Stewart of Mendenhall fall to pick 22 the Cowboys should jump at it. Otherwise, pick the best player avaiilablek whether it be an OT, Cornerback, Safety or WR. (Hardy and Sweed are both intriguiing with size, speed and a knack for touchdowns) At 28 maybe they should jump on next best running back -- JC or Felix Jones. Personally, I like Charles because he's better suited to third down passing situations. But the Cowboys know their potential better than I and I'll be happy to accept their choice. There's lots of talent and WR, CB and RB so no need to reach at any of those positions. This also might be a good year to add a young quarterback. Dallas needs to develop a good backup and there are some pretty good ones that will be around in rounds 5-7. I really liked the kid from Kentucky. In 2-3 years they might have an asset that can get them some value ala Matt Schaub or be ready if Romo falters, loses interest or gets injured.

Good one Brubricker.

This team is in a very good position to set itself up for years. Why do I get the feeling Jones is going to **** it all up? Watch him do something stupid like trade the two 1's and a player for McFadden or something.

Cowboys are into Evil Roy for gauranteed $7.5M, which is already budgeted. If they trade or release him, <6.7M>, the hit is really only $720k. Still alot of money to pay and have nothing to show for it.

Which is funny money for Jones. But he'd never do it because he's such a "shrewd" business man and because of where they drafted him. They are too invested in him and they'd have to find a better free agent, or get someone in the draft..reasonably attainable in my opinion.

Evil Roy is the only Pro Bowler that is almost untradeable. Dallas Should trade for Chad Johnson and might as well get Jason Taylor to since were getting everybody. Then will be full of stars like the 90's. If not in the Draft, we should get Sweed and safety Kenny Phillips. 2nd round we should get Charles. I know it will never happen but oh well.

Some people just don't get it.CHAD JOHNSON ISN'T GOING TO BE TRADED

The Bengals have already essentially been offered 2
1st Round picks by the Redskins and they turned it down without even having to think it over so why would they take only one of Dallas' 1st Round picks, a 2nd day pick, and ****** *** Roy Williams?

Unless the Cowboys can pull off a deal with the Cardinals for Anquan Boldin, which isn't looking like that is going to happen either, then they are going to keep both picks and use them.

RB, CB, and WR are the three big need positions for the Cowboys at this point. I think everyone can agree that RB will be one of those first two picks in the 1st Round and it's up for debate now whether or not they take a CB or a WR with the other pick now that they have Pac-Man. I think that decision between those two will be determined by who is available at that spot.

Chad Johnson said that no matter what (at least under the current contract), he will not play for Cincy again and as much as he loves playing football, he will not play for Cincy. Regardless, of whether Chad Johnson plays for Cincy, he will not play hard and will purposely miss games with any slight soreness. He will become Randy Moss with the Raiders. Cincy ultimately has to trade Chad Johnson whether they like it or not and I think my Cowboy proposal is better than the Redskins offer unless you know specifically the conditions to make Washington's offer a 1st round pick.

The Redskins offer is the 21st pick and a 3rd round pick next year that could be a first round pick next year. Unless you know how easily attainable the performance hurdles to maybe move next year's 3rd round pick to a first round pick, then a next year 3rd round pick is worth a late 4th round pick this year at best. My proposed offer is the 22nd pick (not much different than the 21st pick) a 3rd round pick this year and a 5th round pick this year. I would even up the offer of the the second pick by a round (or since Dallas no longer has a 4th rounder they can offer a 3rd round pick in 2009 in its place to Cincy) to each team if none of them take the offer for their WRs.

Again part of the trick is a prisoners dilemma that you offer the trade first to Cincy saying it will explode and that you will offer it to Detroit then Arizona. If none of the teams take the trade offer, they should just go with their draft strategy b/c they would be overpaying for high priced WRs if they offer higher draft picks.

The only realistic way Dallas could get McFadden without having to trade anything beyond their two 1st Round Picks (#22 and #28) would hope that he slides down to the 7th or 8th pick, which at this point is possible.

The 7th pick in the draft is worth 1,500 points and the 8th pick is worth 1,400 points. Dallas' two picks combined are worth 1,440 (780 and 660 respectively).

The two biggest hurdles would be hoping that the Raiders don't take him at #4 and that the Jets don't take him at #6. Then he'd have to hope that either the Patriots or Ravens would make that deal if they are still there at those spots.

My Cowboys Dream Draft would be:

#1 (22) and #3 (92) go to Detroit for the Legend - Roy wants out of Motown, wants to play in Texas, Cowboys need another receiver, Millen needs more picks to screw up on, perfect situation for everyone. If that's not enought throw in another 3rd next year.

#28- trade down with Atlanta - hopefully they will get nervous and want to trade back into the first to get their QB (Brohm, Flacco, Henne). Dallas would receive #34 & #48

#34- need a good corner (Cason or Flowers) I like Cason more but you can't go wrong with either.

#48- RB- Kevin Smith -why isn't this guy rated higher- he torched our *** for 120yds, I know he played in Conference USA, but he is all UCF had, and he still produced bigtime.

#61. S - Reggie Smith - Another BlowU safety, but I like his coverage skills more than the BlowU safety we have now.

#100- I like three guys here.
DT- Auburn - Pat Sims
WR- Kentucky -Keenan Burton
DT - Texas - Frank Okam

Only 10 more hours

What they should do is what they shoulda' done several years ago...hire Jimmy Johnson as a draft consultant, or perhaps player personnel director, and let him do his thing on draft day without inerferance from Jerry Jones. Of course, I'd love to believe in the yellow brick road, too.....
