What Should the US do in El Salvador?

wHAT should the US do in El Salvador?Crime is out of control, the gangs are taking over, poverty is abysmal. I think a few well placed cruise missiles would serve the country well. But what if our intelligence can;t get proper targets and we blow up Jose and Maria's wedding by mistake? Perhaps we should send in the Marines so we make sure we are smoking the right people?

These are difficult decisions for our national leaders and little that they learned at Harvard will be helpful in determining who the right people to kill will be.

We should all pray for them.

The US spent time in Central America decades ago in an effort to thwart the spread of Communism, along with protecting US interests in telephone and telegraph lines, and fruit companies. Just so happened that could also work for us.

The encroachment upset future decades of any self-determinism and development of a balanced society in those countries.

Time permitting, get a look at work by Stephen Kinzer, titled OVERTHROW. The book goes into great detail on how the intrusion into Iran in 1953 set in motion years and years of what we are now dealing with over there all across the Middle East.

So I guess the question is whether the US should take actions in the very areas of the world where it's nonsense prior intrusions screwed everything up in the first place.

If only the public schools taught a history of American encroachment and intrusion in the affairs of other nations and regions. The results are nearly always a form of blowback or deterioration of some sort that is a drain on our resources, and certainly turns out bad for the other country.

The old rule... costs always outweigh the benefits, from government action.

If high crime rates and grinding poverty was all it took to merit American steel, hell we'd have to bomb Chicago and most of the Third World.

It might merit some harsh language from a low ranking State Dept. official, but that's about it.
