It really depends on what type of person your wife is. My birthday is coming up Saturday, and I could care less if anyone buys me anything. To me, just having loved ones around AND going to the Spring game is enough for me. There are women though that expect a gift, so it really depends on her.

It's not about the gift, it's about the fact that you care enough about her to make the effort to get her something*. I buy my wife random gifts as a proactive defense for things I'm going to do in the future to piss her off.

*The gift better be nice.

Ditto NativeTXChic. It really just depends if your wife is the type who expects gifts. If so, then be sure to have something or you'll pay dearly--you know how crazy women can get if they expect something and get nuthin'!. If she doesn't care either way, maybe you could just get her a card or at least make sure to say "Happy Birthday."

I am so ashamed. I did succumb to the pressure and bought a $100 gift certificate to Chico's and some flowers.

I should have just let her be happy that she has me as her husband.
