What is it about Arkansas

Nolan RIchardson, Houston Nutt, Bobby Petrino .... what is it about Arkansas and their coaches? They just can't seem to stay on the up-and-up.

Frank Broyles was probably the last Arkansas head coach of a major sport that ran a high profile program reasonably honestly.

It was posted above...the swine are part of the SEC, the conference where the credo is "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'." Some arkey coaches have just taken that a little farther, to also mean "If you ain't cheatin' on mama, you ain't tryin'."

Some schools, (UT, Notre Dame, etc.) don't have to cheat. Try that in the SEC and you'll be Vanderbilt. Cheating's a way of life in the conference, and it permeates the whole athletic department of member schools.

Like the SW Airlines pilot said when we landed, "Welcome to Little Rock, please reset your watches to 1955".
Lots of laughs, and plenty of stink eye from the natives.

What I think is missed by so many in Austin is that were it not for The University of Texas at Austin, Austin would be Little Rock.

With or without UT, Austin would NEVER have anything in common with Little Rock. That's inane...it's like saying if Halle Berry didn't look great in a skimpy bikini, she'd be Rosie O'Donnell. I'm not sure where that comment came from, but a native of either Texas or Arkansas could recognize the vast differences between the two state capitols. Ummmmm.....

Got to agree whole heartedly with cool on this one.

Austin without UT would still be a high tech center, a culture mecca for music, literature and film. The live music capital of the world, TI, Dell, and Motorola, a thriving center for the making of movies and television shows. Austin City Limits,SXSW Fests, and Austin City Limits Music Fest etc...........

These reasons and many others is why Austin is mentioned year after year as one of the best cities to live in.

To compare Austin and Little Rock in any other capacity than as state capitals is as weird as Austin continues to wonderfully be.

You're missing the point. Without UT Austin, Austin would never have become a high-tech center. It would never have developed into the music mecca that it is. All of that got it's start because of UT Austin.

Suffice it to say Austin has a LOT more going for it than just UT. No one's saying UT hasn't contributed to make Austin such a desirable place to live, but it would do great even if UT was located somewhere else. Take the state capitol out of Little Rock and all you have left is Hope.

I can see the high tech point of your statement to some degree, but I think the culture element would still be there.

The music center that Austin has become was certainly
created by much more than UT influence.
