What is happening with this program?

If 2846 was the attendance last night, it must have included the band, cheerleaders, ushers, etc. I would have guessed there were about 1500 max there. It is SAD.

We have talented players, but they act like they have no clue out on the floor. The post players are completely ineffective, and Reed was a top ten recruit! I know she's been injured, but there is more to it than that. This is a COACHING problem.
Who is our post coach? Do we even have one??

The team doesn't even have the fundamentals down. 8 out of 18 from the FT line? You can't win many bball games with stats like that...and consequently, we don't.

Last night, with the exception of Fussell, there was no energy at all, from either the players or the coaches, until Hartung went in the game in the second half. Thank God for her. She brought a spark that kept us in the game.

What is happening with this program? It is getting worse each year that GG is here. Either she needs to be fired, or most of the assistant coaches need to be let go, or both. A BIG shakeup needs to happen, because this continued downward spiral is unacceptable.

It's hard to believe that we are in even worse shape now than we were 5 yrs ago. Maybe not making it to the NCAA tournament will open some eyes, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

We've been season ticketholders for 20 years but sadly, we are very seriously considering not renewing next year. It is becoming increasingly difficult to support this program.
If no one is in the seats, will that finally get the attention of the powers that be?

Is anybody at UT listening?

Warning. I’m going to rant.

I’ve kept myself away from this board and any other place where I might read anything about this team for a while….just attempting to figure out what I really believe.

I see an awful lot of trying, and not much doing. Yoda would tell you that isn’t going to get it done. I don’t see a lack of effort. I see a lack of focus. I don’t see a lack of caring, I see a lack of belief. The body language of this team is terrible. I’m tired of watching them pointing fingers at each other and having little girl hissy fits. This team lacks real leaders among the players. I’m not sure if that is because no one knows how to lead. It may just be that in order to lead you have to have a group that is willing to follow. I do know that in order to lead you first have to be willing to follow, and willing to make yourself a true member in a group of individuals with a common purpose. You have to be willing to have the group be more important than your own agenda.

It seems to always take a great individual play to get this team motivated when things are going poorly. I don’t see anyone picking up their teammates, encouraging them, and pushing them forward. I do see heads hanging, fingers pointing, feet stamping, pouting, and complaining to the refs.

It is silly to say that injuries and illness do not matter. Obviously they do. But the problem is that this team has lost at least five games that they should have won based on talent, even with injuries and players not at 100%. This IS an improved team. You can see the talent. You can see inconsistent flashes of what they are capable of when they focus and play together as a team. But, they are not playing to their ability.

There is nothing in life more powerful or more fulfilling than being a member of a group functioning with a shared purpose. Selflessness, sacrifice, and commitment to the goal bring a synergy that makes things possible that no group working as individuals could ever achieve. Being a part of that type group allows an individual to become something greater than they could ever be on their own. When fully experienced that synergy has the ability to change lives, (and teams). That power is often most apparent in the face of adversity, when the group has to come together to set aside distractions and obstacles in order to achieve their shared goal. Never waver. Never quit……..Instead this team seems to wilt under the pressure of adversity and expectations. They don’t seem to believe in each other, or themselves as a group.

Is that a coaching issue? I think both yes and no. You can only coach and prepare players who want to be coached, and who want to sacrifice themselves for the good of the team. On the other hand this is a key function of the coaching staff. The staff has to find a way to get their message across. Clearly what they are doing is not working. It’s time to try something different. That may not work either, but banging you head against a wall rarely helps anything. Unfortunately, this is another place where injuries and illness have an impact. If you don’t have extra bodies to put on the court you can’t really sit someone down until they figure things out on their own. But, sometimes the worst thing you can do is leave a player in the game to continue repeating behavior that is not constructive.

Unlike some people I actually think Texas teams of the past few years may have overachieved. To me this issue seems new. My best guess is that it comes from not dealing appropriately with the higher expectations that come from finally having the physical talent to be more successful. This is when a team needs to come together, not fragment. This looks like a group that had a lot of hope, instead of belief. You can’t really make someone believe. That has to come from inside. So, what is the answer?

I would really like to see this team give up concern about winning and losing. Quit watching the scoreboard. Instead of making wins a goal make playing every minute of every game to the best of their ability the top priority. There is no shame in losing if you played your best. If you play your best every minute winning will take care of itself. Treat every possession like it is the most important possession of the season, because at that moment it is. I would like to see every player commit to the team that they will do everything they can to make every possession successful, one at a time, no matter what happened previously, and no matter the score. I would like to see every player commit to never again pointing a finger, never again questioning a refs call, never again pouting over playing time, a missed shot, or a turnover. I would like to see every player commit to supporting every teammate and doing everything they can in games, at practice, or off the court to make them a better and more successful player.

I would like to see them commit to having fun. After all, the only reason it is worthwhile to be pushed, shoved, slapped, and banged in the head with elbows for two hours, all while being subject to public ridicule, is love of the game. It’s a game, and it’s fun, and that is what got everyone of them to this point. There is too much hard work, pain, and commitment of time and energy to waste it not playing as a team and having a good time.

I haven’t given up on Coach G, or her staff. But, what has happened this to this point in this season has to stop. If I gave her one piece of advice it would be to stop yelling. I understand the frustration. But honestly at this point I’m not sure anyone hears her when she yells. I think she needs to get them all out of their own heads first so that maybe they’ll be able to hear what the coaches are saying.

I have a daughter who coaches a middle school AAU BB team. After the K-State game the 7th grade team captain sent her a text asking if she had been at the game too. She told my daughter that she didn’t think they should bring the AAU team to a Texas game because they were not very good role models. That is embarrassing. I have been through plenty of down years, but this team has frustrated me in ways that I have never experienced before.

I’ll stop ranting now. I still love this team, and I still support them. I still want nothing but success for them. I’ll still cheer every one of them. I’m just frustrated to see them letting opportunity slip away.

No amount of rationalizing will spare you outlook. your claim of avoiding this board is bogus as you have been avoiding the truth. truth of the matter is goestenkors is overpaid overrated and over her head. These players deserve better. The fans deserve better. The University deserves better.

Mediocrity has plagued this program the past 4+ seasons and now we're rock bottom. Wonderful. What I've been pointing out many seasons ago is now "apparent" to the masses. This hire will end up being as foolish as the designated head-coach-in-waiting with Muschamp.... an embarassment that does not represent the University of Texas.

Goestenkors may be paid $1.06 million a year, but one fact is for certain: SHE ISN"T A REAL LONGHORN. (and never will!)

I don't know what Kayla or Ro are in the doghouse for but who cares!?!?!? Let'em play! Kill'em during practice but let'em play ball. 6am practices, 100 suicides, 100 shots in the bucket before you can leave the gym, defense stance for hours at a time. Whatever?!?! But let'em play ball. They don't have to start but at least put them in so we can get some more scoring.

At this point, it want hurt to play the whole team.Until you find some consist offense. Hope they are still recruiting.

Don’t know why Kayla and Ro aren’t playing. I really thought that they would have gotten into the rotation by conference play. We especially could use Ro’s ability to score to help provide some relief on the wings. Nneka and Anne Marie really work well together. They provide a viable option for relief inside. . Injuries happen and they do impact the rotation. With Chelsea out against KSU, Tiff and Ro were the only options to provide our starting perimeter players some rest. Tiff got in. Wish Ro had gotten some 10 minutes in the game.

I like GG and would be happy is she stays and would also understand if UT decides to make a change. I just find it sad that Seattle seems to be enjoying this. That is the real loss.

Well, it's better than going through heart-ache the last couple years of Jody's career and certainly the 4+ years under Goestenkors. The Big 12 exposed Goestenkors for who she is and it's very sad to see Texas invest so much and get little in return.

Seattle I agree with you for a change!
Its sad!
It not the Texas standard.
Remember:
We Are Texas!
We must represent that!
