1. Old Home Depot in Sunset Valley - they've been working on this building for a month or so now. can't find anything about what it's going to be.

2. Costco development at Wm Cannon/Mopac - the Costco is slated to open in June, any idea what else is going there? I know Village Inn is, and on the NE side of this intersection we are getting a Taco Cabana, Whataburger, Scooters Coffeehouse, and I'm not sure what else.

Anyone?

The old Home Depot is going to become the largest Academy store in the chain. I don't know what happens to the old Academy store up the road.

that Cosco development sure is taking up a lot of land... that whole area of south austin is booming... including Slaughter right across escarpment near Circle C. My parents need to move out of Shady Hollow (brodie/ slaughter)

And here's some more data on it from the developper...

"The first phase of Arbor Trails, scheduled to open in late spring 2006, will include Costco, several pad users and approximately 35,000 square feet of smaller shop space. Ultimately, the project will include up to 400,000 square feet of retail including several junior anchors, additional small shop space and several restaurants. Cardinal Paragon has designed Arbor Trails with a “Hill Country” theme incorporating wood, stone, and stucco in earth-tone colors. The site plan includes a substantial wet pond feature and generous hike and bike trails throughout the 40 acres of open, green spaces. “We worked very hard with the surrounding neighborhoods and Costco over the last year to design a unique retail environment. We are thrilled that the project is finally underway,” said Chaffe."

Wal-Mart could have learned a few lessons from Costco. Costco engaged all the local neighborhood associations on what it would take to get their support for the development at that location.

Wal-Mart tried to bully their way onto Mopac and Slaughter and got their head handed to them by the locals.

The old Brodie Academy is going to close. The old Brodie Home Depot used to be the 3rd busiest stoer in the chain. Then they built the stores in Bee Cave and Woodward/I35 to take some pressure off of it. then a year later they moved the old Brodie store to the new location. More modern displays, new layout, bigger, etc. The old store was going to be a Home Depot EXPO, but after sitting vacant for more than 2 years, the company has decided to close many of the Expos around the country. Many wernt located in areas with affluent enough demograpics to succeed. The only two Expos in Texas are in Houston and Dallas.

Yeah, too bad The Triangle (Guad. &35th) & Southpark Meadows weren't though out a litte, o.k., alot better that what they are! Crap, that is what they are! Crap!

yeah I was somewhat excited about Southpark Meadows ( I preferred the venue, though) but there's nothing there to get me excited. I live 3 or 4 miles away, but aside form a once-every-three-months trip to Wal-mart or Petsmart, there's nothing to make me want to fight that parking lot.

And it's ugly.

They just mean that it'll have some pleasant green spaces rather than a ton of pavement, exclusively. It seems like a lot of strip malls could do that sort of thing and "pretty up" the city.
