My job, too, puts me in frequent contact with people that I KNOW are lying and exaggerating to get SS disability for the most bogus of reasons. I catch them lying in various ways, including surveillance, and the jury naturally throws out their bogus lawsuits against my clients (at great expense, however,--well, to us, but not to them, being on contingency fee with their lawyer), yet they go on about their merry way collecting SS forever into the future, working on their next scam.
The "pain" doctors enable this ("specialists" in treating subjective pain, who do not attempt to heal or cure--and would lose the patient if they did), and the other regular doctors cop out from the physical problems (which cannot be proved objectively) by either: 1) calling it a "pain syndrome" such as RSD, CRPS, etc. and giving the addict what they want; or 2) prescribing all sorts of anti-anxiety/depression/sleeping pills, etc.; or 3) referring to a pain doctor or psych who'll do the dirty work for them.
