The Michelada cocktail is often related as a Mexican drink, The name came after "Michel Esper" who invented it in the "Club Deportivo Potosino" in the central Mexican city of San Luis Potosi.
I love Micheladas, but the worst one I ever had was in San Cristobal, Mexico. I was happy to see it offered on the menu, but it tasted like Coke + cheap beer + ketchup. It was awful.
A good Michelada is tough to beat on a nice hot day.
It's amazing how many times people can screw up 4 or 5 simple ingrediants:
1 mexican beer
juice of 1 lime
several cubes of ice
salt
(optional) 2 or 3 shakes of any shaker style hot sauce
Family legend/ lore has it that these things were done to mexican beers specifically because they tasted like ***. Quality control was not the best (or even existant). That's also why people used to drink Tecate with salt & lime. As well as the salt/lime mixes we licked as kids. The lime and ice is a relatively new thing as it made the drink more thirst quenching in the hot mexico summers!
But that's just what my grandpas, dad, step- dad and uncles told me...
Salt rim (personal pref)
juice of 1/2 lime
couple oz of bloody mary mix
dash of tabasco
add ice to fill
add beer
lime garnish
No bloody mary mix for y'all? Am I making a ****** up version?
* About 5 cubes of ice
* Salt rimmed glass
* 1-2 freshly squeezed limes
* About 2 splashes of Worchestershire (sp?) sauce
* Pour beer
* Mix very gently
* 1 splash of Tabasco
Michemix is the way to go. I prefer Especial with Tecate Light. www.michemix.com/
Most of the time I will add clamato (yummy). Sometimes just the mix, beer and ice.
Be careful though, it can be an addicting way to drink beer (like thats ever a problem)
They sell the Michemix at the Diamond Shamrock in Cedar Valley (right before Nutty Brown Cafe). I have several bottles, its good for traveling, you don't have to keep up with several different ingredients.
