What do you think?

This weekend Tennesse plays Kentucky. If you haven't noticed, Kentucky is on a tear in the SEC right now at 10-3 with a 9-1 record in it's last 10 games. They're on the verge being in legitimate talk of making the tourney and a magnificent in-season turnaround but need to keep winning because of their early season disastrous start.

...with that in mind...

Do you want
A) Kentucky win/ Tennessee loss- Billy Gillispie makes the tournament (as a higher seed than A&M?) hurts our SOS etc- and the ensuing Aggy meltdown that occurs...

or

B) Tennessee win/ Kentucky loss- Tenn wins helping our RPI and SOS but getting a big win to help their case with seeding. Gillispie loses and chances of making the tourney are lessened significantly (joy in Aggyland).

I can't decide.

While aggy misery is always a good thing, it can't be part of the equation when our best interests are different.

We definitely want UTenn to lose. That gives them 4 losses and they have to drop below us because of the head to head beatdown. Of course, the loss does not have to be UK, but we have to take it when we can (which is doubtful that UK can pull this off).

Why would you want TN to win? The horse race for the four 1 slots is tight enough as it is...a TN loss definitely bumps us up a bit.

We are in a race with both Memphis and Tennessee. The other UT is in a situation more likely to lose than the Tigers. Granted any loss Memphis picks up is a bonus, Tennessee could conceivably lose 2-3 before the end of the regular season, knocking them down to one of the last 2 seeds.

Throw out that RPI crap, just win baby. There's some talk we might be the Number 1 overall if UNC, UCLA, and others pick up some losses.

I'm stoked Rick Barnes and the team have put us in a spot where we control our own destiny, not only in the conference but in the national eyes of the tournament.

IMO, as long as we win out - up to the B12 Championship Game, we are a solid lock as long as,
Memphis or TN or UCLA loses one more game.
(Note: Duke and UNC play each other the last regular season game AND hypothetically in the ACC Championship game)

Even if say UNC, Memphis, TN and UCLA win out, we should still get a #1 over UCLA. But who knows...

Regardless, the answer to your question is: absolutely we want TN to lose.

It would be better for Tennessee to lose, but I doubt they'll drop a home game to UK. UK was up on Ole Miss by 20-4 at Rupp and had to survive an open three at the end.

Joe Lunardi said last week that Kentucky will be the subject of the longest discussion by the committee, and I agree with him.
