What do you think about this? (Derrick Rose)

That's Right

"I aint from memphis dawg"

I can definitely see where he's coming from, i just wonder how I'd feel if KD went to the Wizards or something and didn't want to be announced as being "from Texas." I guess that's the difference in not only kevin and Derrick, but in texas and the rest. D-Rose went to a school to put on a year-long NBA tryout while KD went to college to be a kid for one more year. (And obviously because both of them had to) Basically, what I'm trying to say is that Texas as a whole obviously made a much bigger impact on KD's life than Memphis did on D-Rose's.

I must have missed the quote in the link at the start of your post, but regardless, I don't think it's that big a deal. Some professional athletes introduce themselves as being from their high school instead of their college affiliation. And he is from Chicago playing in Chicago. Just my opinion.

You've hit the nail on the head. Everybody who goes to Texas is good, everybody who doesn't is bad. Rose is just a douchebag who doesn't care anything about the town he spent a whole year out of his 19/20 year life at. God...for..bid.

The kind of atmosphere that instills pride and loyalty to the program is not something only UT has. But Memphis doesn't have it. I think Scipio referred to them recently as an NBA D-League team and that's pretty damned accurate.

Memphis is alot like Cincinatti, they were only relevant because of the coach. Calipari isn't building a program hes building a resume, once he leaves there will be nothing left in Memphis.

Uhm, IDK, "from Texas and the rest" maybe? Is it that much of a struggle to read the entire paragraph closely? I did. Jeez, guys, it's this kind of hubris that makes people hate us...

I never said that your whole post was wrong. I like how you highlight the parts that have nothing to do with what I'm talking about, lol. That's cute.

I grew up in Memphis and they are more then the coach. They are a basketball school. If you look at them before coach Cal they were damn good for a long time. They had a bad coaching hire with Tick Price and needed to become relavant again and hired Calpari.
Historically, the Tigers were made up of local talent only. The 85 team that went to the final 4, was made up of all players from the city of Memphis. Calpari is the first coach to recruit nationaly for Memphis and he also is willing to take any 1 and done players that want to come.

I am sure that Rick Barnes would have taken Derrick Rose if he had the chance and we would be talking about how a longhorn player did not want to be announced as from Texas.
Kevin Durrant is a different type of guy, and obviously loved playing at Texas. Rose is not that type of guy.

It just depends on the player. Joey Dorsey, who is from Maryland, did an interveiw on playing in Memphis for the Rockets. Dorsey talked very fondly of Memphis and the fans and how it was like going home to play.

Evs, you can splice it anyway you want. I don't know why I am the one that gets vilified for pointing out that Texas is not some omnipotent, always good/correct college. I guess I should know better not to do that on this board by now...all apologies.

Look, I'm sorry I pissed you off. The way you phrased it, that's an easy interpretation of how to take it from an objective viewer. It's not that I "don't get it," I'm not retarded. I just disagree, that's all...
