What do you collect?

Cigars. My collection is paltry by connoisseur standards. There are guys out there with tens of thousands of cigars. Hard to find stuff that sells for money I'm just not going to spend that kind of dough on. But I slug it out and buy a box here and box there. I'm about to outgrow my humidor but I can't justify spending $2500 on the cabinet that I want.

Depends on how much more disposable income you have.

At the risk of sound boring:
Stocks, and more 401(k).

You'll thank yourself later when you have more time on your hands and subsequently more money and are able to retire before all your freinds/colleagues.

After that, Travel. No memory or knowledge gained collects dust, or goes bad.

Nobody has mentioned what I collect - $1 clay poker chips. The big-time collectors like $5 ones but I'm not trying to get "value" - I'd never sell one. If you like to gamble at all it's fun to have a cheap keepsake of every casino you visit in your travels. I have about 55 different ones, most of which I've gotten myself. A friend or 2 has tried to help me by bringing me ones but the real goal is to only have ones I get myself.

Strange as it may seem, I collect board games. Enjoyed playing them, started holding on to what I've got (roughly 100 games now).

Nice things to have, especially because they don't become obsolete like a video game. And there's a nice feeling the first time you unpack the box and punch all the counters.

free, that is awesome! I may take that up as it sounds fun. But I would have a second one for ones friends get me as they travel the world to exotic places.

I, too, collect clay poker chips. I started by putting a chip or two in my pocket while playing the craps tables in Vegas casinos back in the 80's and can remember the events surrounding each acquisition. Just looking at the chips in my display case brings back many memories -- some excellent times with friends who have passed on.

I also have a few from places I didn't get to visit, like the Balinese Room in Galveston. My most valuable is not a chip, but a silver strike that I won from a slot machine at the Flamingo in 1996. It has the Rockettes on it and was apparently released and then recalled because the Rockettes hadn't given approval.

I collect poker chips as well, and have about 40 now. I also collect Longhorn memrobila, Houston Sports Memerobilia and Nolan Ryan baseball cards

Oh, I forgot...

i haven't done anything with them yet, but tickets for me as well. i have the ticket stubs from every event (sports, concerts, etc) that i have attended that was not pay-at-the-door since my senior year in high school (1998). this includes every home game until 2003 and most since then and about 2-3 concerts per month during that span. ut final 4 tix, a 45 yd line suite pass for the 2000 sugar bowl with vick vs. weinke, the ricky heisman game, and some other good ones. i'm unfortunately missing the 2005 rose bowl because i bought a house and spent all my cash.

1990txgirl,

Not sure that I have a prized "bottle." I have a handful of wines or so that I think are some of the best in my closet. Such as:

1997 Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Reserve (and the non-reserve)
1999 Dominus
2003 Darioush "King Darius" (only available to wine club members)
a complete vertical of Plumpjack Cabernet
a half dozen really highly rated French wines
all sorts of small production and hard to find stuff

My philosophy has always been to eschew the Screaming Eagles of the world and find really good (and lasting) wine for as little money as possible. My current average price point is about $70. If the bottle is more than that, it better come highly recommended and be able to lay down. I also tend to gravitate toward mountain fruit (ie Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain, Mount Veeder, etc.).

I'm certainly no expert, I just like drinking the stuff. Of course, I'm equal opportunity as I like beer, whisky (ie scotch), and just about any other alcohol.
