What 'big' bands got their start at SXSW?

can anybody think of any? I know a lot of bands that have played at SXSW but none really jump out at me as getting their big break there.

My boss asked me to come up with a list.

ween credits it as a major jumping off point in the liner notes to their "live at stubb's" record.

beck's show at emo's with johnny cash is one i really wish i'd witnessed. it was supporting "mellow gold," so he wasn't anywhere near a household name yet.

i remember seeing modest mouse at austin music hall and getting into them when "lonesome crowded west" was coming out. then a few years later seeing the sing "float on" at la zona rosa and realizing they were about to get huge.

i don't know what you mean by big, though. those could or could not qualify.

or are you talking strictly bands?

it's tough to say that the "big break" was as a result of SXSW, however all of these bands played SXSW before they were big (this list is very short):

The Strokes
Franz Ferdinand
The Darkness
Bloc Party
Polyphonic Spree
