What are the good vegan eateries in Austin?

Is Mother's still around? They used to have killer mushroom stroganoff.

All good suggestions.

The absolute best vegan place in Austin, however, is Casa de Luz. It's all macrobiotic, vegan, and buffet-style. The food is amazing. Check their page for their calendar, but they have special nights each week and month, including sushi night, taco night (some of the best tacos I've ever had), Caribbean night, pizza night, etc. It is not to be missed.

I also love Veggie Heaven, at the south end of the drag. "Nugget Island" and "Protein 3000" are amazing there.

mr. natural is really good. love the tex mex.

i love veggie heaven, but i suspect that the reason why their food tastes so good has a lot to do with the use of a lot of oil and sugar, which kind of defeats the healthy eating concept associated with a vegeterian meal, for me at least. but it is fantastic.

casa de luz, i'll go if someone else is paying but a lot of it taste like cardboard to me.

i think mothers does a good job of making creative vegetarian dishes that a meat eater can eat and really enjoy.

the tofu and vegetable pad thai at the thai kitchen on guadalupe is awesome.

I was just Googling West Lynn Cafe (b/c I couldn't remember the name of it) and saw that its closed. When did it close? That place was really good.

I hear the Salt Lick hits the spot after some nice smoked lettuce

Just wanted to report that we went to the Cosmic Cafe today after watching the Texas bball game and it was great. We'd definitely go there again.

However, tomorrow is burger day at Waterloo.

I just bought some pre packed Artichoke Manicotti from The Eastside Cafe at the Farmers Market yesterday and it was yummy. I also bought some of their salsa which I really dig.

HoaHoa, the restaurant in Dobie Mall is delicious. They have a good amount of vegetarian entrees that are all vegan as well. Very tasty food and good price with large portion. Fresh.

They also deliver now. They can go as far as Town Lake over by Enfield/Redbud and even come over to the East Side. Much better food than the grease spots that have delivered in the past.

They have Chinese and Vietnamese food.

Madra's Pavillion and the Taj (next to the Taj market on Lamar but they changed the name and it is not Taj but I forget the new name) are both vegetarian and have several vegan items. That is if you like Indian food. Taj has a terrific Masala Dosa.

Cosmic Cafe is a great dining experience. It is what was once West Lynn Cafe. I really like that place.

I like Mother's just fine but always seems to me there is a pronounced Austin type service attitude. You are so lucky to get to go eat at Mother's seems to be the waitstaffs attitude. Not so much with me but I have seen them do it with many customers.
