What are people good at?

If you ask a group of people who don't know each other how they compare with the others in the room I think there are some things everybody thinks they are best at, when clearly everybody isn't the best. "Common Sense" is probably the best example. "Driver" and "Fun in Bed" are two others. Everybody also thinks they are "Interesting" and "A Good Friend". Then there are things most everybody says they are bad at. Singing and physics are good examples. VClearly in a room of twenty people, eoghteen aren't the worst singer.

What things do you think people overrate themselves on, and what things do they underrate.

people are often too overconfident in their ability to forecast economic info and have too narrow confidence intervals. this causes them to be surprised because they have underestimated the dispersion of returns around the mean. overconfidence also leads to excessive trading which increases costs and decreases returns.

That reminds me. It doesn't seem like fun to be an expert at something (football coach) where there are thousands of amateurs who think they know more than you do. Better to be something everybody finds intimidating (neurosurgeon).

People seem to be pretty good at telling others that they have no taste ..

All I could think of is not things people would claim, but things people overestimate anyway:

People overestimate their confidence in an answer without knowing all the facts. We try to summarize complex situations.

Similarly, people are almost always worse with probability/statistics than they think they are.

People think their memory is much more accurate than it really is.
