The team that he did that against was Bryan Rudder and they are worse than Madisonville. I think Whaley is still a good back though and when he comes to Texas I think he excels if we run him sweep right or left and not that slow developing hand off stuff.( zone read)
When David Overstreet was at Big Sandy, they would go games where the only time he hit the ground was in warm-ups. In one blow-out, I think he had four carries for four TD's and 160 some odd yards.
Whaley's nos are impressive. Having said that, I'm not at all sure that he will make a big splash as a RB at UT. Would love to be proven wrong, however.
Regardless of the numbers for that game, watch him play football. Dont think about the size or speed or how much he can lift with his right toe. Its something the mighty NFL scouts still dont understand.
Watch Whaley play football, and he can play very well. The ? is what kind of RB are u envisioning? He isnt going to be a JC or FW type of back or anyone that can break a 60 yarder.
He will run hard and always leans and falls forward, something that good backs do. He will need to get better balance at the college level but has good RB potential.
The 2 big RBs that i can think of that he has potential to become in a couple of years.
Brandon Jacobs is 6-4 264 per Giants site.
Eddie George 6-3 235 per my memory.
I do agree that he does need to be used in the right system to be effective. Vs TT sat would have been good a few times. Straight ahead, runs in the 1,2,3,and 4 gaps with occasionally 5 and 6. Not zone reads. at least in my opinion.
We need a RB like this. 4th Quarter to run out the clock, goal line and short yardage but i think he can be more than that.
He can be part of a great 1-2 punch or 1-2-3 punch for us.
Kindle played both ways and was a stud on defense in hs. Whaley has not been a defensive star in hs. Kindle was recruited out of hs as a defensive player. Whaley was recruited as a rb by Texas and that is where he will get his first shot.
Dude,I'm not hating on the young man.but 400 yards against a JV team is nothing to bragg about. The running backs from Caldwell rushed for over 700 yards on this same team.I 've seen Whaley when they came to Cameron. He's a stud he had 100 yards in the first quarter. But he got dropped behind the line of scrimmage more plenty of times. He could have more yards rushing if he had the blockers. He's a one man team. But if you put him behind a good line IMO he could be a 1500 yard rusher on the collage level.
I may make the drive to watch M'ville play at Navasota Friday. The stangs will likely get pounded since Navasota is highly ranked in the state and the stangs are vastly outmanned, but I would like to see CW play in person
