I'd say his dad is waiting to see who will offer up a job... er I mean a better deal... er I mean promise his son the best playing time. I'd say Hamilton still sounds squarely committed to playing for the Longhorns while his dad... not so much.
But we're recruiting Christian to play for us, not his dad.
This won't change between now and February. (or now and ever for that matter):
“Everything’s just top level from the coaches to the players to the faculty to the school to Longhorn nation,” he said
Wow, what an impressive kid. He still has tremendous upside only having played football 3 yrs! Me thinks he will remain unwavering in his commitment to UT and will sign 2/2011.
I hope I am wrong but I am inclined to be with Gem on this. I remember a few years ago we had a verbal from QB John "I won't let you down Coach" Brantley. But as time went on his Dad dropped a few words just like that and eventually he changed his committment to Florida. I hope he does come here but these type of words are alarming to me.
I think the big difference is that Brantley committed to Texas because Gene Chizik and his dad were college roommates and very close friends. Once Chizik left to Iowa State, Brantley really didn't have any ties to sticking with his commitment to Texas.
Westerman doesn't have any such ties, he chose Texas because we were the best fit for him.
I think his dad is just keeping options open in case Texas doesn't continue to hold it's luster or if something happens like Mack Brown deciding to retire or something drastic like that.
Hell, he might be concerned about the state of Big 12 after all the conference realignment garbage we just went through.
I think and hope you are right, Wasatch. The dad specifically mentions USC in his reservations. Would any of us want to send our son into a den of cheaters, even if plans were already almost final?
I don't think I was clear. USC is mentioned IMO, as an example of how a program may have worse problems than it let on in recruiting. The Dad seems to be concerned, among other things, that we could (theoretically) turn out to have skeletons in our closet.
agree completely. i take it as a dad who doesn't want his kid to get trapped in a seantrel henderson type of situation. we all know we don't run a program like usc or bama... i don't see any way that we lose westerman. brantley was different because he was supposed to be a florida kid from the beginning.
on of the main reasons this kid even committed to ut is because his dad and the rest of his family were awed by the program when they saw it firsthand in the fiesta bowl. there was a big article about how impressed his father was with the team and the fans. so, move along, nothing to see here. unless, that is, you want to keep talking down a great kid who has committed to the forty.
