we beat KU and either Duke or Carolina loses before the final.

If you can't make it to your conference championship final game, you don't deserve to be a #1 seed. ...unless you're so highly ranked you're considered a "lock". see Ohio st. and Pitt

Miami blew it for sure. they might have cost us, by not closing out N. Carolina.

imagine, Miami wins, Duke wins ACC. Duke is in.


That would mean Ohio st., Duke, Pitt, and winner of our game with Kansas.


We were one victory away from a 1 seed, you can't blow a 20 point lead against colorado. had we taken care of business there, we're sitting pretty right now.
 
wow! Lunardi has Duke as a #2, says updated 3/11/11, but it doesn't include Notre Dame's loss, because he has domers as a #1.

This is really good. He also has PItt moving out west, probably because they lost so early in their tourney.

So, that Notre Dame#1 spot is open to us, or N. Carolina or Duke.(granting a win for us over KU)

Duke's schedule is so poor, that the only way you give it to them is because they're Duke.
 
I say if we win the Big XII, UNC wins the ACC, Michigan St wins the Big 10 & UConn wins the Big East, we'll be a 1 seed. Our strength of schedule will be too much to ignore. We beat #1 Kansas twice, we beat UNC. Our loss to UConn will look good.

Let's just take care of business and beat KU. Everything else will take care of itself.
 
The NCAA doesnt put as much stock in conference tournaments as the fans, I really think Texas is a two seed regardless of what happens tonight.
 
IMHO, the most important thing for the Horns is to get a first round in Tulsa, then either San Antonio or New Orleans as the regional.

1-hr flights to Tulsa or Nawlins, bus trip to SA. SA is a no-brainer home court, and even Nawlins would have a bunch of burnt orange from Houston.

Going West or East --- uh, not so much.

Rather be a No.2 in the above paths than a No.1 in either of the other regionals.
 
I'd rather be a 2 seed in a better regional with favorable matchups. It is definitely better than being the fourth 1 seed and getting the least consideration when it come to the regional selection.

Not a whole lot of difference between a 1 and a 2 in the same bracket. Besides if you both win 3 games, you end up playing each other. Wouldn't you want to play that game Ina favorable regional?

Other than a status thing, being the fourth 1 seed is not as important as where you are placed.

KU is a 1 regardless of outcome today. This is common knowledge. So if in your scenario Duke wins the ACC, then I agree they are in - for the 4th 1.

Again, KU, OSU and Pitt are locks.
 
Agreed. Texas beats KU AND either Clemson or Va Tech wins the ACC. That simple. Hokies have the best shot. Horns and Hokies, let's do this!!!
 
ESPN analysts are agreeing with you. Watching a show now. All four said we assume KU's #1 seed with another head-up win. I can't argue...we would then have the same overall record of 16-3 on all conference games played, both reg season and tourney. However, the tie-breaker would go to Horns with the 2-0 head-up...and both wins basically in their backyard. Can't argue that symbolically and in the minds of the tourney selection committee that would crown us the Big12 Champs, even though that's not how it works by conference rules. Even though we have 3 more losses, they've played only 3 games with teams currently in the Top 20 all year. Won at home against #16 Arizona, and lost twice to Horns in basically two home games. That resume is very weak.
 
I think even if we win tonight, KU's "body of work" (read: better record, legacy, etc) plus the discount of the Conference Tournament not meaning much in this case, and KU will still be #1 and we're a #2. But, that might be good reason for the committee to give us the good region of Tulsa/SA.

And with all that said, I'd love to beat the crap outta KU but I think from here on in, it's just "W's" any way you can get them.

I want the win bad...but getting to SA regional regardless of how we get there is most important, IMO.
