Wendy Davis

Vol Horn 4 Life

Good Bye To All The Rest!
Pulled herself up by her boot straps!

Maybe not. Divorced with child at the age of 21. Marries a sugar daddy to pay for her college then divorces him the day after her tuition is paid off. She's such a super mom, he gets custody (which rarely happens) while she has to pay child support. I wonder if she ever missed payments. I'm sure if she did that will come out soon.

She blames Abbott for making personal attacks but doesn't deny any of the facts.

What a winner.

Davis is just another democrat that makes a living at lying.

I'm pretty surprised that the dmn would run a hit piece like this on a democrat. I guess they thought it would eventually come out so they might as well be the ones to profit. In the end it shouldn't matter much as she was never going to beat Abbott. However, it could set the dems back another election cycle if her campaign never gets rolling. Texas democrats are counting on her to set up the organization that they have been desperately needing for 20 years. The next 8 months were to set up a donor base, volunteers, phone bank workers, and all of their contacts for the next guy to build off of. It will be interesting to see if she is another Sanchez or if she can deflect this and do what no dem in 20 years has done.

I also feel that it is important to say that none of this changes anything for me. I usually don't vote democratic but I am somewhat sympathetic to them on the state level. It's rare but there are some I will vote for because most texas dems are like east coast republicans. Wendy is somebody that I would never vote for. Same for Abbott. Maybe I'll write in Mack brown.

Current Dems will vote for her lock-step. They won't give a damn that she's a lying cretin of the highest order- it's all about advancing the liberal agenda, integrity and morals be damned.
Pocohantas, er, Elizabeth Warren proved that Libs will forgive any and all of the deceit that a Democrat candidate can dish out.
Please note, nowhere did I mention that only Liberals lie. I only am arguing that if Abbott publicly runs on a life story rife with lies and damn lies, he'd lose a noticeable amount of votes. Meanwhile, supporters of Abortion Barbie will shrug their shoulders, make excuses and fool themselves to justify voting for this scumbag.

I'm enjoying the passionate counterattack. When the facts are ugly, create a hot counterattack. The Dallas Morning News has always been capable of real journalism. I'm hoping the DMN actually did the work the bring this info to light and wasn't being spoonfed by the Abbott campaign. Honestly, if Abbott were the one bringing these "inconvenient truths" to light, it seems like a poor time strategically. It would seem more damaging to wait until summer to have it fresh in voters minds when campaigns gear up.

Come of the self-rightousness Dalhorn. We've just finished three + terms of clueless, grasping ambition in the Governor's office. If Texas newspapers went after every sweetheart arrangement Rick Perry has made for his campaign contributors and lifelong friends, they'd have deforested East Texas.

Pull your head out of the sand, Crockett. Libs will stick up for Davis no matter what further negative self-inflicted wounds she causes come out in the public forum.
I agree, Perry is aggy-dumb, brought very little to the table and probably has some suspect deal-making in his history as Guv. However, if he had run on a life story chock full of "inaccuracies", he would have lost serious support from his base. Davis, however, won't see more than a negligible drop in her base after her storytelling.
I don't know if Abbott is the best candidate the state can offer. But I feel confident that he's not going to trot out lie after lie, get caught over and again in them, and blame Davis for it.

Dalhorn is right that hardcore Democrats will still back Davis. Partisans don't care about this sort of thing. However, Crockett is right that having Rick Perry as governor has been like watching a train wreck in slow motion. He's also right that for the most part, Perry has gotten a pass. The sleaziest stuff he has done has gotten little to no attention or scrutiny from the press. He's a worthless human being, and so is Greg Abbott.

It's sad that we have to choose between a gold digging skank and a blatantly hypocritical turd with no ideas (basically another term for Rick Perry) for Governor. Of course, originally we had a choice with Tom Pauken who had a full legislative agenda, but people preferred the hypocritical turd with no ideas, so Pauken dropped out.

Looks like I'll be voting for "SECEDE" Kilgore (not because I like him but because he's not Greg Abbott) in the GOP primary and probably Libertarian in the general election.

The one silver lining - Perry will be gone, and that can't happen too soon. When that MFer became governor, I was 25 years old and in law school. I didn't own a cell phone (and wouldn't for another two years) or a laptop (and wouldn't own one of those for another four years). I had a land line, paid a separate bill for long distance service, and owned an answering machine (not voice mail). And that answering machine had a cassette in it. Though some of my friends had cell phones, I knew no one who had a smartphone. Like most people, I had dial-up internet, and it didn't feel slow. I owned a VCR and still used it regularly. I drove a 1991 Mazda MX-6, and it didn't feel old. Blockbuster video was an innovative company with a bright future. Google was completely unknown, and Apple was a has-been company that made stupid products that nobody cared to buy. That's just too long for somebody to be governor.

Wendy reminds me of Obama; a slick talking, Harvard educated, flim flam artist with a pleasing appearance. Like Obama, Wendy is willing to throw her Grandma under the bus to win an election. No wonder Obama is reportedly sending some of his best political advisors to help her campaign.

I know little about Wendy Davis politically, and what I do know I don't like. And it does appear that the story she has been telling is, ahem, not 100% accurate.

That said, the facts as told in the DMN article are quite inconsistent with how the story is spun by the OP and the rag he quotes from.

In reply to:

The timing of leaving her husband speaks volumes, just as her abandoning her 2 children does. Democrats lie so much that they have no idea what reality is. Morality is nonexistant with them.

NJ,

Obviously a website like Towhnall isn't going to be fair to Davis anymore than a website like Daily Kos is going to be fair to a Republican. However, the legitimate story that ran in the Morning News is pretty fair. The point really isn't the details as much as that it conflicts with the narrative she has tried to spin.

You may not understand her rap since you're not in Texas, but she's in an weird position. Prior to the abortion filibuster, she was unknown beyond political circles and a fairly unremarkable senator - no major legislative accomplishments, not in a particularly important leadership position, etc. Overall, her record was left-leaning but not militantly so.

She launches the abortion filibuster, and the hardcore Democratic base (that the party has mostly kept quiet in recent years) has an orgasm. Occupy movement and International Socialist Organization activists storm the Capitol, and all hell breaks loose. Furthermore, because she was doing it in defiance of a Republican Governor and Legislature in a state that the national media pretty much hates especially its views on social and cultural issues, she gets a ton of positive national news coverage and fluff pieces.

All that's good for her, except one thing. Outside of Austin, being associated with ISO and Occupy and fighting a ban on abortions after 20-weeks isn't something to be proud of. She needed to separate from that issue and those people or face the end of her career. She was elected from a district that Romney carried by 8 points, so she had won with lots of crossover Republican votes. She was going to lose those and therefore her seat, so she decided to run for Governor in hopes of putting the Texas Democratic Party back on the map and keeping her career.

Statewide, she's still in a catch-.22. She's famous and has money because of abortion. However, she's on the wrong side of most Texans on that issue, so she's doing everything she can not to be associated with it. She virtually doesn't discuss the filibuster at all. Instead, she's running on education (more money), the economy, corruption, and veterans issues.

She's trying to build an Obama-style coalition - blacks, Mexicans, gays, young single white women, etc. The problem is that such a coalition is tough to build in Texas. Mexicans and single white chicks don't turn out in Texas, and even when they do, enough of them vote Republican to screw up the coalition.

To make up for that she has to get suburban married women to not vote with their husbands, and that's where the narrative fits in. She can't be just like them because she's not married, so she paints the picture of the hardworking, independent single mom who busted her *** through law school while still putting her children first and displaying exemplary character. Whether her husband (who's an older fat dude that wouldn't ordinarily get a hot blonde) was wealthy or not, he certainly gave her a lot of help. The timing of the divorce doesn't prove anything, but it doesn't look good. Furthermore, the fact that she cheated on him and that he had custody of the children doesn't fit the narrative of a person with high character who puts children first.

Personally, I don't care. I don't vote for or against people based on superficial ******** like this. Furthermore, Greg Abbott is a disgusting human being, so he wasn't going to get my vote anyway. Honestly, she has a better shot at it than he does. However, this screws up her narrative. And married white women who cart their kids around in minivans all day do vote on superficial narratives, and if she doesn't get them in big numbers, she's going to get slaughtered. That's why this story is important.

Davis Ex said this. "Jeff Davis said that was right around the time the final payment on their Harvard Law School loan was due. “It was ironic,” he said. “I made the last payment, and it was the next day she left."
and he paid all 4 years, Not just one

Plus he was in his own words makng 6 figures.
hardly a struggle
It is funny that he says stuff like that but also says he supports her

and a Mother running for " women's rights' who gave up custody AND had a restraining order brought by the ex and issued by a judge that Wendy must not have alcohol or drugs within24 hours before she has visitation rights or during the visit?

The Link

That hasn't hit the waves yet

edit to add
when you read the whole link you see her own daughter, the step daughter of the man who got custody asked to remain with the step dad.
and to not have " special friends" over when she visited the so called Mother Wendy
I can't believe the Dems are this desperate

I wont vote for her because she is a Harvard law grad but a couple of points need to be made re this race. She is going to draw out some people who don't often vote (my idiot sister for example) and that will help other dems.

Everybody who has divorced with kids knows that she did not "lose" custody of her kids or abandon them when she became possessory conservator and it is a willful distortion to suggest she did. Most moms keep their kids and let dad pay child support them if he is willing and able but there are lots who do the same she did. I know two like that myself.

Single issue voters who are anti abortion are called conservatives and all vote republican anyway. Women who have had abortions or who have friends will more likely vote for her,

The best organized voting bloc in the state outside of the pollution industry, which buys up most candidates, is the teachers and they will recall and rejoice in her first unsuccessful filibuster at the end of the 2010 session when the republicans gutted the education budget.

THey will be in her pocket from the getgo.

Abbott sounds good to the people who already agree with him but like a sour toord to the casual observer.

Her personal narrative aint as bad as Bill Clinton's and most people seem alright with him. Compare her personal narrative with Abbott, who overcame physical disabilities from a tree falling on him (admirable) and then sued the homeowner of the property for allowing the tree to fall on him while he was jogging past and got rich off a personal injury suit where he skinned an insurance company.

I don't like either of them and will vote Vegetarian or Anti-Vivisectionist or whoever else is on the ballot

spider: good points all and I agree that she will not likely pick up voters who are not dems already but keep in mind that most registered voters who trend dem don't vote and an increased number are likely to when you consider how much attention and heat this election is likely to generate,.

I still think her primary effect will be to help downballot dems in some areas where the party split is close but am not ready to write her off yet. Like I did Ann Richards.

It will be very easy for the Abbott campaign to associate her with it. She will be forced to come out against it or have it pinned on her day after day on the campaign trail. "Didn't come out for it" isn't good enough considering her history.

Here was Wendy's email response:

Crockett
As our campaign has gained momentum, our opponents have gotten more and more desperate. But now they’ve stooped to a new low by attacking my family, my education, and my personal story – playing politics with the journey that has been my life.

Mine is a story about a teenage single mother who struggled to keep her young family afloat. It’s a story about a young woman who was given a precious opportunity to work her way up in the world. It’s a story about resiliency, and sacrifice, and perseverance.

And you’re damn right it’s a true story.

Throughout this campaign, I’ve shared that story – not because it’s unique, but because it isn’t.

The story of my life is also the story of millions of single mothers who feel alone in the world, millions of young dreamers searching for their chance to become something more than what they were born into, millions of families all across Texas who would sacrifice everything to give their children a better future.

It’s those stories – your stories – that drive my campaign. But Greg Abbott and his allies don’t want to hear them. They don’t have anything to offer Texans who find themselves in the same difficult situation I was in when I was young. They would slam the doors I walked through and pull up the ladders I was lucky to be able to climb.

And now, instead of offering real ideas to improve your life, they’re attacking mine.

It won’t work. The only thing Greg Abbott and his allies have proved with these desperate attacks is that they don’t understand what it means to live a life like mine – a life like that of so many people all across our state.

They don’t know me – and, what’s more important, they don’t know you.

I’m not surprised that the Abbott campaign would resort to attacking the story of a single mother who worked hard to get ahead.

And I’m not afraid of their false attacks – I developed thick skin long before anyone knew my name.

What I am is deeply proud of the life I’ve built and the daughters I’ve raised – and deeply grateful to the many, many people who have shared their stories and offered their support as I’ve traveled our state.

No false attack can take away my story. And no sleazy political trick will stop me from giving voice to yours.

Your stories are why I’m running for Governor. And together, I know we’ll make sure that the Texas we leave to our children is a place where every young mother can build a better life for her child. . . where every family can work their way up the economic ladder. . . where every Texan can achieve their dreams and live out their own success story.

If you’re with me, click here and add your name to my letter as a sign of support. Together, we’ll break through these attacks, win this election, and make Texas even greater.

Wendy

A lot of fury in the response. I'm not sure this could really be called a counterattack, since the bad press was a combination of her own campaign faiing to get the details right in the original story and media follow up. She hasn't been out after the media, though the Dallas Morning News did the investigation and right-wing media further extraoolated into a pretty nasty narrative roughly as careful with its fact checking as Wendy's team has been.
How much will we allow candidates to tell a story that is thematically true, but fails to get the details right?
