where do you live (water-bearing capacity of geologic formations vary throughout cental texas); do you have enough room to set up a tank for those times that well is "dry" ; are there large developments nearby (residential/commercial); you could probably save a little bit of $ by heat splicing the wiring and just adding the length required for new well...

new vs. refurb well makes sense, their time to drill and clean the pilothole and ensure the well will produce properly exposes them to liability rather than just drilling a new pilothole and installing new equipment....

I'd suggest calling several ww drillers and getting bids, one of them may give you some $ for your old equipemnt if it' in good shape
