Dang it, the Big XII beat me to it. I had been thinking for a while of doing a post on how Hannah Allison is the most under-appreciated player in the N-C-double-A’s. Well, she’s this weeks’ Big XII Wheaties-box cover girl, and I think there’s more where that came from.
She’s always been an angel-faced badass. I mean, c’mon, super-competitive. She’ll slice up an opponent like Ziyi Zhang with the magical sword, the Green Destiny, in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
You never see her give up. Even those nights when the passing has stunk up the place, Bevo-style. Hannah’s still collecting bruises, diving after shanks, and never a complaint.
Would be interesting to put one of those running meters on her, to see how far she runs in a night. Like about a jillion wind sprints per match.
Then think about all the hitter connections she has needed to establish and re-establish. Three frosh coming in, Bailey and Ashley coming back. And then all these line-up switcheroos? Sha’Dare to the right, Bailey to the left, Khat to the middle. Oy!
There is so much mental work too that Hannah does to get good looks for the hitters. In some leagues, they keep track of running sets and still sets. (A running set is defined as a set that puts the hitter against one blocker or none. Still sets are when the set puts an attacker against two or more blockers.) We don’t know, of course, what Hannah’s stats are, but our teams’ high hitting percentage is not just because of our explosive hitters - - Hannah has to be doing her job too.
So hats off to her – very well-deserved.
This is just one more reminder - our team rocks!
