In all 5 major polls, we will be #1 ... or #2. Most likely, but I could be wrong. Should be #1 in Baseball America.

Not a huge deal at this point, but after not even advancing to a Super in the past 3 seasons, it makes it feel like we're on the path to being "back" as a program.

Most Top 4's included UNC, LSU, Georgia, Texas is some order. LSU dropped a home series to Illinois, UNC dropped a game to Clemson at home, UGA swept a pedestrian Quinnipiac team.

Let's hope we get some credit for going 3-1 on the road this week.

I believe the LSU - ILL series was in Red Stick. I'm wondering if we will maintain our status as SEC champs this year

Quinnipiac? Those dudes brought some mean stuff to the Disch back in the day. They had an epic jam for a year until they tangled with the Horns.

How do you think we will fair vs. Mizzou this week? More pain? They have taken the series for like the past 90 years or something, so Im fed up with that and it needs to stop.

I think we will be #1 in Baseball America, #2 in Collegiate Baseballs poll.

Mizzou has had a rough start, but has played nice competition.

3 against ASU, played Oregon State, Nevada, Gonzaga as well. Should be a great series.

Baylor on Weds will also be a good test.

Rivals:

1. NORTH CAROLINA (10-2) – Previous rank: 1
The Tar Heels recorded a mid-week win last week and also took two of three at home in a hard-fought series against Clemson.
2. GEORGIA (12-0) – Previous rank: 4
I thought the Bulldogs would have a good team before the season, but now I'm thinking they're a favorite to win the national title.
3. TEXAS (12-1) – Previous rank: 3
The Longhorns passed their first two road tests of the year. After beating Texas State the 'Horns took two of three from Stanford.
4. CAL STATE FULLERTON (9-2) – Previous rank: 7
Perhaps no team in America besides Georgia has been as hot as the Titans the past two weeks. Fullerton dominated Southern Miss last weekend.
5. RICE (8-4) – Previous rank: 5
The Owls split a pair of mid-week games and had another good weekend with wins over Washington State and Notre Dame.
6. TEXAS A&M (11-3) – Previous rank: 6
The Aggies certainly tried to make things interesting last week, but won a pair of mid-week games and took a home series from Utah.
7. LSU (10-2) – Previous rank: 2
The Tigers began last week with a pair of mid-week wins, but really dropped the ball with a home weekend series loss to Illinois.
8. ARIZONA STATE (11-1) – Previous rank: 13
The Sun Devils had a short week and won three games against Holy Cross. The pitching staff has been a pleasant surprise so far this season.
9. MIAMI (FL) (10-2) – Previous rank: 14
The Hurricanes dropped a mid-week bout to Rhode Island earlier last week, but did a clean sweep of N.C. State over the weekend.
10. PEPPERDINE (9-3) – Previous rank: 10
The Waves began last week with another mid-week win over UCLA before taking three of four at home from Evansville.
11. GEORGIA TECH (9-1) – Previous rank: 11
The Yellow Jackets took the week off from mid-week action but swept Maryland over the weekend in dominating fashion.
12. OKLAHOMA STATE (9-2) – Previous rank: 12
The Cowboys had another productive week that consisted of wins over Oregon State, Gonzaga and San Francisco. They lost to UC Riverside.
13. BAYLOR (10-2) – Previous rank: 15
The Bears just continue to impress me. After beating UC Irvine on Saturday the Bears fought back to beat UAB on Sunday. Impressive.
14. UC IRVINE (7-4) – Previous rank: 8
The Anteaters began the week by getting crushed by Loyola Marymount and lost their only contest against a tough team over the weekend.
15. FLORIDA STATE (7-5) – Previous rank: 9
The Seminoles began last week with mid-week losses to Jacksonville and North Florida before losing two of three to Boston College.
16. TCU (9-2) – Previous rank: 21
The Horned Frogs dropped a mid-week bout to Baylor last week, but also did a clean sweep of Wichita State at home.
17. OREGON STATE (7-3) – Previous rank: 19
The Beavers had another successful week on the diamond. They beat Texas Tech, San Francisco and UC Riverside, but lost to Oklahoma State.
18. FLORIDA (9-4) – Previous rank: 18
The Gators split a pair of mid-week games before sweeping Duquesne at home. Though it was a good week, it told us very little.
19. OKLAHOMA (12-3) – Previous rank: 20
The Sooners really had a nice week. After taking a pair of mid-week games against UALR, the Sooners did a clean sweep of UCLA.
20. COASTAL CAROLINA (12-1) – Previous rank: 24
The Chanticleers had another outstanding week on the diamond, but the win over The Citadel was the only noteworthy triumph.
21. ARKANSAS (9-2) – Previous rank: 25
The Razorbacks began the week by taking a pair of mid-week games from Valparaiso. Then they took two of three from California.
22. CLEMSON (6-4) – Previous rank: 17
The Tigers split a pair of mid-week games and saved face by at least giving North Carolina all it could handle over the weekend.
23. SAN DIEGO (8-6) – Previous rank: 16
The Toreros are on the verge of being one of the first highly ranked teams to fall out of the rankings. They went 1-3 against SDSU last weekend.
24. MISSISSIPPI (7-3) – Previous rank: 22
The Rebels got jumped by more worthy teams but still had a great week with a 4-0 record and a home series sweep over Vermont.
25. CAL POLY (8-2) – Previous rank: NR
The Mustangs have one of the best resumes so far this season and went on the road and took two of three from Houston this past weekend.

Texas shouldn't have a problem with Mizzou this weekend. Mizzou's in a rebuilding year - even worse than the Big Red is if that's possible.

I am sort of puzzled at the preference for East Coast teams on these polls considering the fact no team from East of the Mississippi has won the national title in 8 years.

Wow ... LSU sits at #3 after losing a series to Illinois? Oh well, as I mentioned before, these polls mean very little at this point.

Baseball America is the worst poll of the bunch, by far.

I'm not sure who decided they have "the most authoritative" poll, but that person is wrong and should have been clued in as to the ineptitude of that poll when A&M was ranked #1 in preseason. Or when the poll came out today and Georgia was #8.

The NCBWA and the coaches' poll are generally the most accurate. I think they are produced by people who actually watch college baseball.

Boyd's World ISRs are the ones I generally go to as far as getting a feel of how good a team really is.
The Link

Also, Big 12 is ranked #2 in ISR. It's going to be a tough, tough league this year. NU has a ridiculous stretch next week where we're at Arkansas, then home for 3 with OSU.

The writers seem to just adore the east coast. The ranking of Fullerton and Baylor is ridiculous and Florida State being ranked at all is a total joke after being worked by Boston College.

The great thing about baseball is that we have a tournament to sort all this out at year's end.

I like boyd's as well, but it is too early to really tell where teams stack up yet.

Baseball America is the most authortative source on the minor leagues and amateur baseball, but their college poll is not really that great.

That is my 2 cents.

Boyds may be all fine and well to you all, but there is no way in my mind that Texas is the 10th best team in the nation.

Also, UNC is ranked 22nd, UGA 11th, and 8-4 Cal is ranked ahead of us. There is just so much that is wrong with that poll.
