Welcome, Jatarie!

Based on her 2 year history at SC, anyone know if she can get a year of eligibility back with a medical redshirt for one of those?

Awesome! Another post player, like Joyner Holmes, with a Tina Thompson-like skill set. That pair could develop into something special. :yippee:

Based on her high school ratings, I would be ecstatic to get her. Based on college, not so much. It's no disgrace she couldn't break into the starting lineup against two of the supreme big girls in college basketball. Obviously the staff doesn't expect a scoring star, but she doesn't have to be one. There will be tons of scoring ability all around her on the floor. I guess they just want to be sure they have at least a good average center in there to rebound and defend. Maybe they've concluded they need insurance at that position based on how recruiting is going. To be fair, by the time she steps on the court she will a senior in age---at the peak of her strength and experience, and she has a whole year to improve her skills against very good competition in practice.

Outstanding get for the Longhorns! She comes from a winning program, so she can bring that experience to the team!

Well as for Dr.D ,Let me explain this to you as well as other first of all I was there with my kid in Columbia sc watching how she would outplay each of her team mates in practice but would never be encouraged to perform that way on the court. When you have high schooler coming out thinking positive about their game and get to a school that they think they will make an impact but the damn coaches have their favorite and doesn't give or show that player any faith in her ability to be part of the team system. it takes away from their mental make up of how they look at and prepare for games and or practice. just understand that Texas have a real player that should have came if her 2014 yr in high school.

Don't worry too much about some of the posters on this board; a few folks like to stir the pot even when there's nothing there to mix. Believe me we know how special Jatarie is, and are thrilled to have her! She is going to a huge asset for this team!!

Interesting perspective. And please know we are so happy to have Jatarie. Oftentimes statistics, the only metric we Texas fans have to evaluate Jatarie's game, do very little to tell the complete story. Other factors, like the points you made, often play a dominant role.

Curious to know why Jatarie chose USC over Texas in the first place back in 2014. Did she not have a Texas offer or did she not have an interest in Texas? Thank you for joining our forum.

Well first of all just so everyone understands that she was concern about distance and to be honest to everyone I was a big part of that because she is my baby and being so far away was a big change for me. I'm use to seeing her all the time and not thinking of her needs but how far I wanted to travel and to be honest she should have came her senior yr out of high school to texas. even when coach Karen lived in charlotte,nc she was aways a big fan of Jatarie's she watched her in high school at her camps on uncc campus. Coach K was the better coach and sometimes it takes a min to understand whats in her best interest and now I Know it Coach Karen. Love the visit and she is really excited about coming out to texas because of the players, coaches, and a chance to be with the best post coach in college Coach Tina Thompson. love me some coach Tina. very happy this time around she will be better than most think she has the game and now the coaches.

Totally understand. It is hard to know the best option in life - although it's nice to know you have options.

In this case, you have a great second chance and we know Jatarie is motivated to take advantage of that second chance. Welcome aboard.

Well ?I want to thank the UT family for all the love and the chance to be in a better situation than before we feel the love and know that it's the right place to be. thank you'll for everything and if anyone wants to know anything just ask I'm willing to talk about it.

Very excited to have Jatarie. Watching some high school film and you can see the great footwork and overall skill set.

Of all the talk about potential transfers, Jatarie is the one I REALLY wanted the most. I'm no expert, but I played this game many years at different levels. I've also followed the women's game since I was a kid, and I knew all along that Jatarie not playing much at South Carolina was due to the coaches' inability to manage minutes amongst alot of talent.

As great as Pat Summit and Vivian Stinger have been they never were good managers of munites and many high school All Americans did not flourish under them. Dawn Staley is no different it seems. I was surprised when Jatarie didn't leave after her freshman year because clearly she was not being given a fair shake at SC. Don't be surprised if we start seeing mass exodus at Baylor eventually, as they over-recruit at positions and in classes. Although we can't really argue with their success thus far, believe me I see the wheels loosening. Just sayin..

I can assure you Jatarie is in good hands at Texas, and WATCH Tina Thompson turn Jatarie, Joyner, and Jordan (hey... three Js) along with those twins into a combination that there will be no answer for! Again, welcome to Texas Jatarie, Ervin White, and family! You're OUR family now. Hook Em!

Thank you so much and it's an honor to be part of the hook'em family. well the reason with her staying past her freshman year was being told that her playing time would increase and it didn't so she was tired of being lied to by the coaching staff. she was ready to leave after her fresh yr but when a coach is willing to lie to keep a player knowing good and well she is not going to play her like the player deserve to be played.

Oh Just want to know if there is anyone that goes fishing in Austin. I love to fish so if we can get with someone that knows the spots to hit when we come in for a visit. let me know plz

No one will be happier than me if she has a great career at Texas. Stats are stats, and we have to mention them. What's behind the stats is a different matter, and I don't pretend to know. Maybe the coaches weren't fair. I don't know. Maybe her injury limited her minutes and held her back a little. I don't know. I do know her footwork under the basket looked great in the high school video I saw. She looked like a terrific player. Aston is a coach who gives players a chance to show what they can do. If it works out as you expect, we will all be enormously happy for Jaterie.
