weird issue on my macbook case: Update Below

I'm on hold with apple right now, although i don't know exactly what can be done.
On the edge of my black macbook, about an inch to the right of the track pad/mouse button, a piece of plastic came off, leaving an inch long, narrow little slat that goes basically to the inside of the computer. i have no idea how this happened! i was just sitting here typing - it's kind of where my wrist hits the edge, and this piece just broke off. it's about an inch long, and pretty narrow.
anyone ever experienced this!?

is it some kind of peeling? Apple should replace your case if your under warranty. I know they did when the white cases had issues with them turning yellowish

i have a crack in the same place on the left hand side. nothing has come off, just a long, narrow crack.

This thread is worthless without pics. I haven't had any such issues with my Macbook.

should be repaired or replaced. take it in to the apple store if you have one close.

i have apple care, so that's a good thing. i'm pretty sure it would be covered under warranty anyway though.
apple is sending me a box/shipping stuff, but i just called the store nearby and they said they'd be able to fix it, although it may take a couple days if they have to order a part. I will post pics later if I can - another piece broke off, and the side is now making a squeaking noise. I'm so sad. I don't think I can live without it for a couple days.
I am taking it in Monday (I can't live without it over the weekend), and will let you know what they say when they see it.
FWIW, I can't imagine anything I did caused this. I'm a pretty standard user, I'd say, although I have been taking it to work with me for the past 2 months and using it there as well. But I bought it in June 2007, so it's not like it's old and worn.

Apparently it's not that uncommon, and it sounds like these guys had theirs fixed in an hour or two - I may go tomorrow.

My MacBook is cracked in exactly the same area. Did Apple replace your upper case under warranty?

I had the same problem a few months ago. Fortunately I had Apple Care and took it to the store where they replaced it for free.
