Weekly Prediction Contest Critique and Suggestions

Prediction Contest Manager
Since our season is done, I am opening up this thread for critique and suggestions for next year's competition.

Once I get a few thoughts on this, I will start another thread with a poll for all to vote on. Depending on how many items there are to vote on and how difficult or easy the implementation of said suggestions will determine how much I can include for next year.

I am going to start off with a suggestion of mine.

I would like to see a Bold Prediction in addition to the normal game prediction.

There will be a set amount of Bold Predictions, i.e. RB X will run for 150+ yards, QB X will pass for 300+ yards or Defense will have over 2 TOs. These are just examples and you do not have to put in a Bold Prediction. You only get one prediction and if correct will receive addition points like 5 points.

Obviously a point for correct selection is a good thing.
Margin of victory is also a good thing.

However, there were times where it seemed like someone on the wrong side of the score did better than someone on the correct side simply because of the margin metrics.

To remedy that, I would propose something that takes the score as a baseline and then go plus or minus from there that sort of follows an over or under scoring. I presume the tracking is being done in Excel or some other sort of spreadsheet. Nuances of the system is not something I have worked out in my own head yet though...but we have the off-season for that.

And I guess, following on the Bold Prediction line...are there enough people who get any manner of value from the analytical commentary I tried bringing to my picks? I do try to make these with the same sort of thought I would put into a bet at the counter, although there I don't have to come up with an exact score ;)

I really like how you do the contest. It's something we all look forward to each week during the season :hookem:.

But if you're asking for criticism......I think I noticed one week (and I wasn't really checking) that someone who picked the wrong winner was in top ten for that week. If you miss on the winner, I think that should drop you considerably.

Again, I just glanced at that, so I could be mistaken.

Anyway.....thats all I got :hookem:
