Wedding/Wedding shower gifts?

So I'm a groomsman in a wedding ,and they are having a "mixed gender wedding shower" today (

).

Question that pretty much all the guys are debating...

What's the gift protocol for the shower? Some of the guys think that you can just bring the actual wedding gift to the shower, and that qualifies as the full wedding gift. Some others think that the gift is separate ,and the shower gift can just be a small deal or a gag type gift.

Can anyone give a definitive answer to this? I have about an hour to figure it out.

Usually the shower gift is the actual wedding gift.

The shower gift and the wedding gift should be two different things, as far as I know. However, shower gifts are usually a little less expensive than the wedding gift.
