Going to look at engagement/wedding rings on Saturday.

I need some input on good, quality places to look.
Gurinsky's in Highland mall is already on my list.

Any places to steer clear of? Bad experiences?

More seriously, now...

Are you after wedding bands or an engagement ring? If you're looking at diamonds, please be sure to do some homework on the internet first. Then find a good, honest jeweler who will teach you what a good diamond is.

I would recommend Sheftall's (Lamar across from Central Market) any day. Ask for Cyrus (now the owner). They do fantastic work. I had my wife's engagement ring and wedding band done with them. If they don't have it, they will get it or get it made exactly how you want it.

They are not cheap, but their quality is outstanding. I also consider customer service vital when making a purchase which is expected to become a family heirloom, and theirs is second to none. I have recommended them to friends who are also very picky and have been more than satisfied.

Good luck! Tell Cyrus "Hi," and that Matt and Brooke sent you.

No question about it..Trends and Traditions..It is On Kerbey Lane..Just across the street from the resturant. Go talk to monte or his wife. He got me such an outstanding deal on my fiance's engagement ring. and the guy knows what he is doing..he has been in the biz for around 20 years..very very small store, but he can get you ANYTHING you need. I will never purchase jewelry from anyone but him.. Let me know if you need anymore info. HOOKEM

cyrus (the president, not the owner) at sheftall's is a good friend of mine. he will certainly sell you a high quality piece.

stay away from malls.

I ripped Russell Korman on a diamond from the very first batch he ever got, got a mindblowing deal and I had looked for mONTHS. Too bad she lost the ring 9we think she accidentally thre it out while cleaning...)

I would suggest looking at rings ONLY to find out what sort of settings you like. The I would educate myself and go buy a diamond and have it set yourself in a setting you like.

Oh yes! This thread was HYSTERICAL!!

Thank you guys for your input!! Didn't mean to make it sound like I was "mall" shopping. I have bought jewelry from Gurinsky's before and I really like them. I will definitely take into account the other suggestions, such as checking out just the settings and buying a diamond elsewhere.

Check some prices at Mondera.com before looking elsewhere. We got amazing deals on our rings there, and they look and feel great. The jewelry store who resized mine thought it had cost much more than it did.

Stay away from Gurinsky's. I used to work there in HS and the guy has very poor quality rings that he sells for too much.

People assume Tiffany diamonds are really expensive...you would be suprised and the quality is hard to beat. And, women love Tiffany diamonds. They start at 1k. You can visit one in Houston.
