Wedding Gifts

Is it customery for the bride and groom to give each other wedding gifts? Just curious because when I mentioned this to several co-workers, they had never heard of this custom.

I had never heard of it until last year.

It is a new thing that I believe some new, materialistic brides are attempting to push on the rest of the populace.

it is becoming more customary. my fiancee (getting married next weekend) just bought me (us) a new couch, so i'm ok with it.

We gave each other these gold rings we wear on our left hands (mine has diamonds). I didn't see the need for giving each other additional gifts.

It's a fairly recent phenomenon. If you ask a chick, they say, "Oh yeah, that has been around forever." If you ask a dude, they are like "What"? I went ahead and got my wife a present (got married a month ago). She deserved something for putting up with me. Got her some diamond earrings.

I've only been engaged a couple of weeks, so we haven't discussed buying each other presents but I would think that buying her an engagement ring, wedding band and a 7-10 day honeymoon in the Turks & Caicos would be good enough. Especially since I have to pay for everything myself with no help from the family. I'm too old to be asking my parents to foot the bill. I'm sure there are more expenses on the way that I haven't thought about. Vegas is looking really good about now!!
