Wedding Anniversary in Austin ... help!

Just found out that i've got to make a work trip to Austin on Thursday, which is my wedding anniversary. The wife has decided to accompany me on the trip, so we can still go out and celebrate Thursday night in Austin. Any ideas where we should go/what we could do? We were thinking something fairly simple, nice dinner and then maybe some live music or anything that's pretty chill in town.

We're both about 30. Enjoy drinking, live music ... whatever. As for dinner, not interested in a coat and tie type establishment, but something nice.

Went to UT, but don't make many trips to Austin these days and have no idea where we should go. Thanks for any suggestions you can give on short notice.

Big fan of Chez Nous. If you like French food-go there. Small place, friendly staff, great atmosphere and excellent food.

fonda is great! margaritas are very good and the waiters always seem to be really nice (last guy we had gave us a tequila lesson and knew every detail about every item on the menu).

i recently went to el chile on manor. thought the food was really good. chill atmosphere. good drinks. i thought it seemed like a great date place.

one suggestion i might add, not sure how you guys are with sweets, but if you go for that, you might think of this. call eddie v's and ask if they have the cookie dessert. if they do, do dinner wherever then head downtown to eddie v's and sit in the bar. order the cookie dessert and maybe a dessert wine or port. you will be so glad you did.

Mandola's @ the triangle.
I'll 3rd Fonda though....you can't go wrong there.

Less expensive option: Vivo on Manor Road, and they give the ladies a rose after the meal-that would be nice for an anniversary. The entrees are all about $11, but the frozen margaritas are $9, so note that before consuming too many.
Also, East Side Cafe on Manor is good.

Viva is nice.

I only went to East Side Cafe once. Before we got our food, I noticed a large-- like a 2 incher-- roach crawling around on the wall in the dining room. When the wait staff finally noticed the roach, they tried to take it off the wall w/ one of the cloth napkins. They didn't catch it, and it went running into the kitchen. Through the kitchen door you could see the kitchen staff chasing it around and trying to catch it... too disgusting.

I'd say Z- Tejas. They have excellent food for decent prices, (12-25) and EXCELLENT margaritas. It's on 6th so it's close to down town.

A roach can walk in anyplace in Austin, I doubt that is the norm at East Side Cafe. Just don't order the Cucarachas al Carbon Plato.

thanks for all the great suggestions. always amazed at how helpful everyone is here.

We went to Fonda, and it was awesome. Waitress was over the top nice and knew that menu inside and out. drinks were awesome and for dessert, ordered El Mateo, which was out of this world. it was ice cream with hot caramel poured over the top and liqueur poured over all of that.

thanks again.
