after spending the first 25 years of my life in austin, im moving to nyc. it sucks leaving texas, but i am looking forward to the future and only plan on staying there for a few years or so. anyway, i know there is a ton of things to do up there, so i was wondering if there was a good website or anything that has it nicely laid out (directions, prices, etc). also, if anyone wants to recomend anything, im all ears. keep in mind that i am a student, so i wont be doing the broadway shows, fancy restaurants and things of that nature.

thanks

I am going to start and end this thread by saying. Figure it out your ******* self. Seriously the best part about nyc is carving your own space and feeling your way around. I moved up there having been there the grand total of once and not knowing a single person, by the time I left I knew hundreds of people that I'd put my life in the hands of except for next, hes a sob.

I don't know of any site that serves as a welcome mat, but I guess you could find a lot of insight by exploring the citysearch and craigslist sites for nyc. and the local texas exes chapter.

one you find out where you're living in the city, I'd start from there. every neighborhood has its own thing going on.

it's true, I'm an SOB, then again Midtown knocked up his wife so he could to San Antonio (of course he loves the latina...anyway)

Midtown is right, you need to get here and then get out there and feel your way around. There is no site that really does what ask beyond something like a citysearch, there are some blogs but OTJT is the way to go.

I'm moving up there myself in September.

I'd echo what others have said about finding stuff on your own. If you are moving to NYC, as opposed to visiting, you don't have to approach it as a tourist. The Statue of Liberty will still be there months down the line. But, if you are really wanting to know the ins and outs of the tourist destinations, pickup a Lonely Planet guide on New York from the bookstore. It will give you both high and low end scenerios as well of addresses and subway stops. I used them as a staple when we backpacked Europe. While in NY, Time Out is a great publication for you to plan your weekends with.

There is simply too much to do in NY. It all depends on what kind of tastes you have. Dinner and a broadway show is on the high end, but I also enjoy strolling around Central Park and stopping by the Shake Shack for burger goodness. You can hit a club/bar or go to Coney Island and get a ride on the rundown amusement attractions.

In a month or so, you will have your own hidden gems.
