Web Hosting: Which company? Why?

So I'm going to build a website for a some work that I do down here in Buenos Aires and I want to buy the domain tomorrow (Monday).

In the past 6 months or so I've done some work using Go Daddy's basic software and Yahoo's basic web builder.

I don't have any major skills and I don't have any of my own software, though I think that my roommate may have Dreamweaver (?).

I think that my brother always recommends GKG.NET, but he's always recommending companies that have slightly lower prices, but are not the recognized standard. (He preached against iPods and bought me something else about 5 years ago even though Apple made iPods practically dummy proof.)

So what would you guys recommend?

1) Go Daddy
2) Yahoo
3) GKG.NET
4) Something else

WHAT I NEED IT FOR:

I will basically be posting pictures, maybe doing a blog, including links to radio show podcast segments that I record weekly, and having a testimonial page. There will be a contact page, forms... I don't think that I will use any Flash. At least not yet. I'm not sure about video either, again, at least not yet.

I will have links to my friend's pages as well as hopefully have some room for advertising. (Everyone down here is trying to snag the Dollars, Euros, & Pounds anyway they can.)

Thanks for any suggestions you guys have.

When I can't get a client to pay for decent hosting, i'll often recommend bluehost. They are pretty good for low end.

Reality is that decent managed hosting is $300/mo+, decent unmanaged starts at ~$100/mo and there is very little difference between the $6/mo to $50/mo hosting that ranges from shared to vps.

There are problems inherent with shared hosting and it doesn't matter whether you use yahoo, bluehost or godaddy. But when you are paying less than $10/mo, there's not really much you can complain about. it's actually pretty damn impressive that these companies can offer those services and the support they offer at those rates.

If you ever hear the name prolinkhosting just ignore it. It is super cheap ($10 per YEAR) but sucks all kinds of suck.

I have used BlueHost.com for 3 years for multiple business sites and love it. Their latest offer at 6.95 has unlimited transfer and storage, which would be good for what you are looking for. All of their automated setup tools for things like blogging software or photo databases would be good for what you are doing.

I've been using Dreamhost for years and have been perfectly satisfied with their service. They have one-click installs for Wordpress and other tools, and their management console is very good. Recommended.
