I've set out and started my own company and need a website. Austin seems like it would be a very easy spot to find someone to build a website, but I have no idea what to look for.

Anyone have any ideas on where I should start looking, about how much I can expect to pay, how long it takes....etc etc.

This is somewhat related to your post as I also would like to know the info you are requesting.

If you are strapped for cash, go with an experienced freelancer. Freelancers are just so much cheaper and efficient than agencies.

I'm assuming you are looking for what is essentially a brochureware site with blog/news, contact form etc. For a job like that with a talented and experienced freelancer you should expect to pay in the 5-8k range with rates around $50-$100/hr. The same thing at an interactive agency will start at around 20k with rates from $125-$200/hr.

If you can't pay that kind of price, don't get discouraged. You can always find someone willing to do it for significantly less and can still get a site you will be satisfied with. Just be careful.

If you can afford those prices, be wary of offers that are a lot lower. That's the market rate of just about any agency or freelancer I would trust. There are a lot of really ****** freelancers and agencies out there.

When I do run across people who can deliver a good site for a lot less they tend to be very talented students or tech people that don't do web work for a day job and are unaware of market prices. You simply won't find an agency that can reliably deliver for less.
