Weak showing in the Big 12 tourney

Winning our first round game and losing to the tournament champions on a last second shot was such a weak showing, that it probably put us in the NCAA tournament.

And likely a first round elimination. Also, over 64 teams get into the NCAA tournament, which is most of D1.

The time has come for us to say goodbye to Rick Barnes.

If we can't be in the Top 68 of teams we don't deserve a basketball team. Do the math. It is time to say good bye to Rick Barnes.

Disappointing loss? Sure. "Weak showing"? No.

If Joe Lunardi is right - and he usually is - we're now on the safe side of the bubble and don't have to win a play-in game. Barnes got lucky that there weren't more Conference Cinderellas stealing bids or we may be on the wrong side of that bubble and talking more about his coaching fiasco Thursday night.

I do agree Barnes got lucky this year. Not just with the lack of cinderellas, but with an overall incredibly weak bubble.

Praising the fight and effort in close, quality opponent losses again I see. That flies once or twice a season...not when you're 2-5 in games decided by 5 or less. Losing has made our fan base habitual with excuses for losing.

But we looked so good losing against ISU, anything can happen in the tourney...blah blah blah. Sure, we can get bounced again after making another 10 bonehead decisions in last 5 minutes.

Winners finish and take over half of their close games, not 2 of 7. Losers, feel good about multiple "quality losses" and gush over bowing to Kentucky by double digits. Yay, we may be solidly off the bubble, I'm so proud. :rolleyes1:

Time for new blood. All the excuse cards have been played. Oh wait, I'm sure one more is coming next week....

Kentucky, one year after winning the national championship lost in the first round of the NIT in 2013 to Robert Morris. So they didn't even finish in the top 84 teams. Does that school deserve to have a basketball team?

If Barnes doesn't make it to the Sweet 16 this year, I'll grab my torch and pitchfork and join the rest of you looking to run him out of town on a rail.

"A riot............... ist a turrrible ting..................undttt......................I TINK IT'S TIME VE HOD VON!!!!!"

Seriously, though, sweet 16 would require (assuming getting to 32 first) beating (likely) a hot No.3 seeded Notre Dame.

beating Butler will require the team to play well. Beating Notre Dame will require the team to defend the 3 better than they ever have and play well. Also with the second one, interior D will have to be able to compensate for the lack of help from outside since guarding the 3 vs Notre Dame is imperative.

This has been a particular weakness in the past. Can Texas adjust, if they get as far as to play Notre Dame, to having respect oriented D towards the Notre Dame outside threat while not completely discounting the inside and rebounding? Who knows.

While I'll agree that Notre Dame is going to be a tough game to win (not that Butler is a given), it's time for Barnes to beat a team he's not expected to - something he hasn't done in at least the last decade.

It's been a very disappointing year, but Barnes can make us all forget that by getting this talented team to peak at the right time of the year. I'd love to see a rematch with Kentucky in the Elite 8. Come on Barnes, prove us all wrong!!
