We think you are too stupid

Fwiw, I think that Obama won the debate. But, who won a debate is usually a matter of debate in itself and should not be a lead story reported as fact. If they want to include some analyst quotes, then that is fine but the writer shouldn't be able to report opinion as fact.

I really liked Romney's answer when asked what he would do if he received word from Israel that it's bombers were on the way to attack Iraq. I also liked President Obama's discussion about the devestating impact that sanctions are having on Iran and the understanding both parties have about the difficulties in dealing with Pakistan. You can disagree with their judgements, but I saw two sober, intelligent leaders on stage last night.

CNN is hoping that enough people tuned away to watch Monday Night Football during Romney's epic beatdown of Obama over the economy (# 1 issue to voters) in the last 20 minutes of the debate. That's the only way any rational person could believe a claim that Obama won.

It must be nice to have such self confidence as to be able to speak for all rational people.

I sometimes wonder if our sports mentality has bled over into debates. We can't simply say that two guys stood up and made their cases, and we think one articulated his better or more clearly. Someone had to "win." I'm fairly sure that Romney couldn't care less who CNN claims "won" the debate, nor should Obama. I would say that whoever wins the election in November is the guy who won the debates.

What's more disturbing is the media arrogance that looks at the OP quote and considers that a factual account of the debate or anything that belongs in a news article. as far as I can tell, the only things in that paragraph that aren't subjective opinion are that Obama is president, Mitt Romney is challenger, and the election is 15 days from Monday night. Oh, and Romney apparently is the former governor of Massachusetts.

You nailed it, Prod. The idea of the media reporting news and leaving their opinions to the op ed page seems to be obsolete. And the country is the worse for it.

The media has to call winners and losers in every debate. It's their way of trying to exhibit influence on voters' minds.

I watched the debate last night, and frankly, on a policy standpoint, these guys agreed more often than they disagreed. For a challenger who has never held national office, I thought Romney did pretty well as far as knowing the issues. However, I didn't see him make a clear case as to what he'd do differently from Obama other than not cutting the military. On the flip side, Obama acted like a jerk for about the first half of the debate. I don't think that served him well, and I think he could sense that and cut it out after a while.

Overall, if both candidates were starting at the same point, I'd call it a draw. However, a foreign policy debate always favors the incumbent, and that puts Obama as the winner.
