what kind of precautions should i take? we have a wrought iron fence in the backyard and our miniature schnauzer only goes out during the day to pee and when we walk him. the past couple of nights, bobcats have come out while we were walking our dog and we picked him up and ran the other way. is there like bobcat mace or something that will make my dog not run towards the bobcats in a friendly manner?

Bobcats are usually a very secretive species, from my observation. Maybe these have become accustomed to being around humans, but it is possible they could have rabies or something, as well. Unfortunately, when people take over animals habitat, the animals are usually killed off to make everything safe for pets and kids.

Bobcat(s) plural? You mean there were more than one, like a pride of lions? Seems like we need clarity on the statement that "bobcats have come out". Where do you live?

We have a chihuahua-yorkie mix and are more worried about owls and hawks than coyotes. Never seen any bobcats though.

Why would you run from a bobcat? Don't they weigh about 20 pounds? Never heard of one attacking a person.

Sheeeit, what the hell are you afraid of TSU student/alumni ??

Is this like the aggy afraid of Raiders phobia??

You need to see a shrink.

Stealing land is serious business. You can only hope that the bobcat and coyote legal community won't take action against you. I wouldn't worry too much about it. With no opposable thumbs, they typically can't pass their bar exams.

I would never let your dog out of your sight.
Some friends in Katy had their dog killed by a bobcat. A big one can be pretty aggressive.
Wasn't much left of him after the cat was done.
I bring my dog in at night, and she weighs about 65 pounds.
Too many coyotes around.

I've hunted and been in the outdoors all of my life. I have NEVER seen a bobcat that stood around after spotting me. Maybe these are big, feral cats. Anyway, a 34 inch Louisville Slugger should do the trick.
