Longhorns’ announcer Moreland gets job with Cubs

The Longhorns have another vacancy to fill. Keith Moreland, their longtime color commentator on football and baseball radio broadcasts with Craig Way, has been hired by the Chicago Cubs to be one of their broadcasters, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Moreland, who played for the Cubs for half of a 12-year career in the major leagues, will replace Ron Santo on the Cubs’ broadcasts on WGN-AM, the paper reported.

No word yet on who might replace Moreland on the Longhorns’ broadcasts.

Losing Moreland is like losing an extra coach for the team. Especially the catchers getting the chance to talk to an old pro during the BS sessions.

It has been great to listen to Moreland over the years. Watching, listening actually, to him grow into a solid, insightful, color man.

The Cubbies are getting a good one. Hook'em Keith!

Maybe he will go there for a week and come back.
I'm sure it's a great opportunity for Keith, but we will miss him. No one knows UT baseball like him, or certainly very few. And he played football, so knew that sport as well.
He will be missed.
He also sounded happy, almost chortling when he spoke.
Best of luck with the Cubs! But come back some day if it doesn't work out.
Who could replace him, someone like Greg Swindell? He seemed to enjoy being a part of the college program. Don't know if he would want to do it, but he was a pretty good interview subject. Any names surfacing yet?

I still remember the Boston College game a few years back where he was literally calling the BC pitches before they happened. He was great to listen to on the net because he really could set a picture. He will be great for the Cubbies and tremendously missed.

Hoping they consider Will Crouch from the '05 team to replace Moreland... If you have ever heard him on "Wednesday's with Will" on 1300 you know he has the personality, the voice and the baseball knowledge to be the perfect color guy.
