This team is just not very fundamentally sound. Reminds me of the 04-05 team that scraped its way into the tourney only to get beat by Nevada. This team may not even scrape its way into the tourney.
As a fan this team is brutal to watch right now. As a fan I will stick by them no matter what and give my support all the while wondering what the hell is going on. As a fan remembering that the coaches and players want to win way, way more than we want them to so hopefully they get **** sorted out.
Ugh. I DVR'ed the Mizzou game and only got around to watching it this morning, and now this. Wow. This is a full-blown crisis. I think at best we finish 8-8 in the league--have to figure OU, at aggy, and at KU are almost certain losses, and it's hard to see the team as it is playing right now beating Baylor (or winning at OSU, etc). The body language from Barnes and most of the players is very very bad--at the end of a close game you can just see them going "here we go again..." How many close losses does this make now? Six, I figure. We just cannot close--or do much else right either.
I think the final possession has to be put on Barnes. We're two down and we come out of the break and Neb has 2 players on Abrams. At that point he should be looking for the open man. I realize the goal (sorry) was to get a 3-pointer. BUT, there has to be an Option B and that would be to go to the open man who's much closer to the basket. Besides with our size difference it's not beyond belief that one of the bigs and score and get fouled.
When he shot he forced it with maybe 3 defenders. Just really didn't like that last possession.
p.s: we're not a good-shooting team, but we're still a good team.
Terrible? Really? We are terrible? We are snake bit or something. We are under achieving and the Horns are not a top ten type team. But terrible?
Regarding the tourney I would not say we are on the bubble right now, not by a long shot. But they had better turn things around. Finish .500 the rest of the way and be bounced first round of the conference tourney and maybe they are on the bubble and staying home.
Yea, I think the team is terrbie right now too. But geez, the 3 six feet beyond the arc as time expires?? We played good D on a couple of those and the guy just buries the shot. Just seems like a lot of that crap has not gone our way in this stretch.
and the coach stinks. barnes reallly botched this game. first, atchley hits his first 3 in forever and barnes proceeds to sit him down the entire game after he travels. then he puts abrahms at the point and has balbay sit in the corner and offer nothing to them from that place on the court becuasae he can not shoot an outside shot. atchley would work well from that spot but again he is on hte bench becasue he traveled one time. nebraska also gave james and johnson the 15 footer all day when pittman was in the game because they had to collapse on pittman. barnes should have james and johnson shoot that shot all day and then let pittman eat the glass against that samller defense. one last thing, im still pretty upset with barnes after the ksu loss because he failed to play his bench more when htey went into overtime. he gassed his palyers who made the big run to push it into the overtime. we lack a leader on hte court and on the bench.
I believe Dex should touch the ball every time we are on offense. I know we have to play zone while he is in the game, but when he gets the ball down low he either throws it down or gets fouled. As frustrating as it is to watch our team play right now, I don't think all is lost. We need a good showing against OSU this Tuesday to get things headed in the right direction.
Nothing wrong with going to the NIT, this team's play does not deserve to go to the big dance. They will have at least 10 losses and there are alot of teams more deserving this year.
It's all about coaching and Barnes is just not doing a good job. Abrams jacking up a contested 3 with 2 guys on him is more of what is wrong with this team. Certain players can do no wrong while others are yanked for the rest of the game if they do one thing wrong.
We are playing a team using 4 guards and we don't get it to Johnson or Pittman inside when down by two. Instead Abrams jacks up a desperation three. A couple of years ago, I would have had the opinion that Abrams did that because he likes to shoot. Now, I think he did that because he was told that he had to take the final shot. WTF!?!
This team needs another scorer than Abrams. I thought James would be that player, but he has not consistently showed up. I wonder what a guy like J'Covan Brown could have done for this team even as a true freshman. We wouldn't be great because of him, but at least we would not have yet another guard, other than Abrams, refuse to take shots. Mason at least made a few attempts today. Balbay for all his PG mentality still refuses to take shots.
Just as frustrating to me as AJ's bad 3-pointer was our very last possession. We still had a chance to tie the game, and we looked like we even didn't know how to advance the ball. I realize nobody on this team is TJ Ford, but if TJ can make it to the opposite FT line in 2 seconds at the end of a game, you'd think that with triple that much time we could get off a look from right at the 3 point line instead of way behind it.
