Congrats to the young man. Speaks to his versatility and willingness to help the team. Hopefully he won't be in a position where he needs to punt while on the 40.
Besides having a good punter prospect we have a good QB prospect. Let's hope our coverage and tackling will be good where he doesn't have to have any contact and risk injury.
He had a pretty horrible year at QB. Swoopes was the first person to explain how football is a team sport every time the topic came up. I have no doubt he was hampered by injuries, but if anyone in their right mind was forced to choose between Ash and Swoopes in 2013, then we're in for more problems than we can handle next year.
I went to a game in early Sept. He is a long way from being a D1 difference maker at QB. That said, it is difficult to get an accurate read on him b/c his team was comprised of small, slow and unathletic kids, just awful. I walked away thinking I could have suited up and been the 2nd best player on his team and I am 46. Seriously. I spoke to grandmother of one of his teammates and she said he is a really good kid and his mother is no nonsense. I liked that.
I will say this, if he can punt on a college level, it definitely keeps the defenses honest on fourth down punting situations. A mobile punter who has enough patience to let the rushers commit could do some serious damage on a tuck-and run.
